Torn about painting rims or leaving them...opinions?

Well, there was a whole thread about it a few weeks ago, but I am still torn. There are a few changes that make the decision harder. If you want to read the old thread, here it is:
https://maxima.org/forums/4th-generation-maxima-1995-1999/310411-decisions.html

If you want to know the situation, here it is:

I bought a set of rims that look like the pic below.

As said in the other thread, I bought them online and was not aware that that they had a very slight gold-ish hue. The pictures in the ad did not pick it up, and even in person it is not immediately apparent. In the sunlight it looks ever-so-slightly gold.

I was all set after seeing them in person to just put them on with the slight hue, but then I saw a set of mesh BBS knock-offs last night on a white GTI and I was filled once again with thoughts of painting. Right after that, I saw some magazine pics of a white 240SX with bronze rims (no lip, though). Now I am all torn. It will be a pain in the **** to repaint, but I don’t want to get tires on there and THEN decide to paint them. Also (and this is a real consideration for me), my wife looked at the rims and liked them in silver. She felt that to paint them bronze or gunmetal would be a waste of time, and that I should just mount the tires and get these on the car and be done with it.

I had been considered repainting the spokes and the area around the "BBS" logo on the center cap. I would either do it in gunmetal or silver, but the slightly gold-ish hue is not what I thought it would be. I also considered a bronze color, but I am not sure how that would look with the few chrome accents on the I30. If I paint them, I will leave the polished lip all around the rim. I have a pic of these rims painted up, but they are a slightly different design and are painted black.

As far as color, I am keeping my options open. I could not care less if a particular color is played out, b/c I never really run into other max/i30 owners in my area. I want to have on my car what I think looks the best to me. I DO want to consider all colors before I pick one, but I will not pick one based on what people around me have. Of course, I appreciate everyone's feedback, so please keep that coming.

Lastly, I don’t really have a good place to do the refinishing, but I could get it done if I put some effort into it. I am really torn as to whether to mount them and see how they look, or whether I should do the refinish/repaint and then be SURE that I won’t need to make changes down the road.

Any thoughts, guys? BTW, the car is white (see www for CarDomain page for more pics).

Yes, it is Pearl White.

Do you mean it should look fine leaving them as-is?

I got my rims in gunmetal but when they came, the spokes weren't as dark as I'd like. considering painting them glossy black.

good luck and let me know how it comes out...

They would look ok the way they are with a white car. I hate white wheels though. If you paint them I would go with silver.

i checked out the webpage and im going with painting them silver. To me silver will be sports sedan and to leave them will be more of a luxury look with the colors.

now im going to head out before the wife and other org members try to kick me in the teeth ! lol

p.s. extreme professional paint job on the rims, they got to look mint !

I don't like gold/yellow or any of those shades on any wheel. My .02 would be to paint them but I would still put them on and see if they actually look nice the way they are. You never know.

Well, here is th enew plan- install them on the car as-is. IF I hate them, then I pull the tires off of the rims and repaint. I COULD try to paint them with the tires mounted, but I would rather have the rims-only to work with. It will make it less likely to make a mistake. If I do end up painting them it will be a waste of money to have had them mounted and all, btu if I like them as-they-are, then I will have saved time and hassle.

I REALLY want them in gunmetal, but I think that the safest bet is to leave them as-is for now. Hopefully they will not look too gold-ish on the car...

Sounds like the smart decision.

How about posting a pic of the car with them on then we can all give you a second round of opinions LOL.
