$10 Grand to Spend on a Car, Need Opinions...

Here are my options:

1. 95-96 240SX (w/ 97-98 S14 front clip in the future)

2. 97-99 Maxima (5spd.)

3. 00-01 Maxima (5spd.)

Thanks.

I should've done a poll, it completely slipped my mind. But it seems that the majority is leaning towards a 97-99 5spd.
The thing is I want a 95-96 240sx but finding a 95-96 5spd. SE w/leather is REALLY HARD TO FIND! But then again, finding a 97-99 5spd. is a lot easier. So I'm just gonna keep my options open. Thanks so far guys. =)

If you got 10 grand, then you can find a 97 5spd maxima for 5K, then use the other 5K on s/c and suspension.....

#1, probably find one less than 5 grand, spend the rest on an engine swap (RB20DET or SR20DET) and get the 97-98 front end swap. #1 has the MOST potential imo.

You can find a s14a 240 pretty easily if you watch the forums closely or the for sales, you can then swap in a manny tranny if its an auto (that helps keep ur options open) and get a sr in it and can probably achieve all that for about 10 - 12 k

#1... only problem is that it is turning into the next honda civic - i see them everywhere especially in SoCal.
They handle pretty nice with aftermarket suspension. Had a friend who had a 96 240sx with only JICs (I think) with a fidanza flywheel and killed my other friend's 99 Sentra SE-L with the sr20, headers, full exhaust, full GC suspension, ECU chip, cams, and cold air while driving through the canyons.

If he goes all out on #1 he'll spend more than $10,000.

I'm putting just a turbo on my B13 SE-R (not a whole new engine) and with the car and the turbo I've already spent over $7,000. Imagine buying a turbo engine and installing it, painting the car etc..

I say that if this isnt your "everyday car" get the 00-01 5-speed.

If you can get it for $10,000, I'd feel like I was getting a more dependable ride (only because it was a 2000/2001) And the body style is more...modern?

but the 4th gen is faster, so I guess it all depends on what you want.

I'd say the 240SX project would be fun if you like spending a lot of time working on your car, but if you just want a pretty quick ride and lots of room, get one of the Maxima's.

I don't know why you'd consider dropping 10k on the other two.

Ok guys my parents decided to give me the Max I currently have now permanently. The only problem is, it's a fully loaded AUTO. I guess whatever happens, happens for a reason. Now I'll just have to save money on my own to manual swap it and put more mods into it. But thanks for the input guys!!

Go with 2 or 3. The 240sx is slow without upgrades and costs more than it's worth IMO.

If you look long enough you can find a 97-99 maxima fully loaded for WELL under $10k.

#2 can't go wrong with a 4th gen. Then you have money left over for mods.

But if you want reliability for a long time go with #3. That might last you longer than the other two.

I would go with #1. 4th gens are way too common, and 5th gens look older than 4th gens.

IMO: The 5th gen Max is the best aging Maxima to date. I look at the 6th gen, and look at my 5th gen and it really surprises me how well the design of the 5th gen is holding up. This is coming from someone who wanted a 6th gen, too....until I realized they suck.

The way cars are being designed these days...higher rooflines, really high tail ends, and overall very "thick" looking, makes any previous gen look outdated. It is all a scheme set out by manufacturers to make any previous product look way out of date, forcing many people who are into image to buy something newer.

Looks like Nissan dropped the ball with the 6th gen Max, though. You take a look at the previous-gen Accords, TLs, and etc., and their new counterparts make them look so frigin outdated it's not even funny. But if you look at the 5th gen Max (especially a 5.5 gen) and compare it to the 6th gen...there's almost nothing outdated about the styling of the 5th gen compared to the 6th gen. The only thing that's a bit outdated is the boring grille and headlights on the first 5th gen...but the 5.5 Max makes up for that ten fold.
