Weapon R coilovers
I had to replace both of the rear coilovers. The strut rod snapped at the weld! The fronts are fine though

I've been thinking alot about this too. I definately want to go coilovers, cause of adjustablity and I can slam the F outta the car, which is my ultimate goal. Cattman's 2nd generation coilovers look appealing as they've been redesigned to pretty much go as low as you can, but they are gonna be ALOT of money. I see that Weapon R has coilovers, but also I looked on altezzalights.com and it looks like OBX and SHM also has coilovers for the 4th gen maxima. I belive only the Cattmans come with struts/shocks. I've never seen any of these before and it looks here that none of these have shocks either. I love to have a car that handles like its on rails and hopefully the Cattman coils will do this for me.
But I'm trying to find coilovers other than the Cattman's because they broke on me twice already

hey I30cefiro, i was just wondering how you molded your stillen kit to your bumper was it cause you had too cause it didn't fit right before or was that the look your going for? i just got a new 97 bumper for my 95 and i have the stillen lip on the way and tips?
I personally wouldn't get the WR coilovers. From what all the Honda/Acura people say, it's like getting your stuff at KMart. I say stick w/ the Cattman's, the reliablity sucks, but there's a lot of headaches with coilover sleeves too. You're never going to find a shock that works all that well. From what Ming told me, the Cattman's work fine if you don't drop it too low and turn the damping up too high, he's broken 2 of his shocks too.
And the second spring on the WR just keeps the noise down. It's a helper spring that keeps the springs from clunking when the car is slammed by keeping tension on the setup. Normally if your car is slammed on coilovers and you hit a big dip or something, the car may lift and actually come off of the spring, the helper springs just keep that from happening. No real performance benefits. I know on some of the real coilover kits from Japan like Tein, the second spring is actually part of the dual stage spring rate, but on the cheap Weapon R's and Arospeeds, it's just to keep noise down. The spring rate on those is too low to actually help performance any.

Coilovers
I used to be a honda/acura person, and yes, i can affirm, Weapon*R is CRAP. id rather make my own coilovers out of toilet paper rolls and speaker wire. if you want to get a decent set of coilovers, get the Ground Controls. they will run you about $390 retail, but it will be money well spent. as far as the "little" spring in the weapon*R coilovers, its a helper spring that is "supposed" to keep the spring from coming unseated under very very hard cornering.... but in Weapon*R its just a gimmick... kinda like their entire product line. Really expensive coilover systems have these helper springs, but in Weapon*R (and other cheap crap coilover brands) they are just to make them look like the high end ones. besides, if you can turn your I30 hard enough to lift the inside wheels and unseat the spring, you should be racing in Speedvision Touring Car Championship

Re: Re: Coilovers
You probably could, they do stuff like that. I'm trying to figure out if I can buy a set of the rear GC springs to use on the front so I can drop my car more. Right now, I can get crazy tuck in the rear, but the front won't drop below 1 finger gap, looks kind of funny. When I first installed them, I accidentally installed the rear springs on the front and it looked great. I even drove like that for a little while, this was while I still had Intrax in the back. The ride was actually better than it is now since the rear springs are a lower rate.

Is it possible to just buy the rear coilovers from ground control? The front coilovers on the cattman's are fine, it's just the rears that suck.

I had to mold the kit because it didn't fit my car but it also looked good because it eliminated the lines
