removing driveaxles help
Hey, Im doing a clutch job for the first time and Im having trouble with the driver side axle. I cant get the thing to pull out the tranny. I tried prying it with a screw driver and yanking it in and out, it has a little play, but it just doesnt come out. Am I missing anything? Anyone have any tips to help me out? Thanks.
I tried some more but it just doesnt want to come out. I already pryed on the tranny case...opps lol. Ill try to get it out tomarrow, if not then ill just drop the tranny with it still in there. I tried gettin the passenger axle out but I couldnt get the axle nut off, I tried jacking up the end of the breaker bar to break it loose but that wasnt working so Ill go get a cheater bar and see if that helps any. If I cant get the passenger side axle out, will it come out when I move the tranny to the side of the car?
when i took my driverside axel out i didn't even pull on it or anything. when i finally got the other side out from the rotor and stuff the side that was in the axel was all the way out. is that normal cuz if you guys are sayin yours are stuck it just kinda makes me wonder.
It's interesting that it won't pop off. It usually does....except in your case. My suggestions is when you do get it off, inspected the axle, as well as the diff. Probably should lube the axle splines up real well with gear oil on the tranny side, and grease on the hub side.

Driver's side really should pop out with a quick yank. The passenger's side has no c-clip--the only thing holding it in place is the support bracket. Unfortunately, that is often fused so the passenger side is often much harder to deal with than the driver's axle.
Yeah, pull on the outer end. Not sure if it is possible to damage the outer joint that way (I think some people reported the passenger side outer joing coming out doing this) but for me, it was the only way to get a good quick yank with a good "running start" before the joint extends fully. It is very hard to pop the c-clip by just pulling.
Thanks for the replies. I pulled on the hub part and it came out. I started on getting the passenger side axle out but I ended up breaking two sockets trying to get the knuckle to strut bolts out.
