Auto Transmission Cooler

I am thinking about buying an auto tanny cooler for my 01 Max because I want the car to last as long as possible. To the people who have an auto tran cooler, is it worth it? Did it make your transmission shift smoother? Will it help avoid slipping? Thanks

I have one but didn't notice any difference in shifting. And yes, it will help prolong the life of your tranny by reducing the heat of the fluid.

How tricky is the installation? Do you use the existing hoses that run to the radiator? What about mounting, I would assume there is some drilling involved? Also, would I be able to do the drop resistor mod, or manually shift through the gears with a little more peace of mind?

Very easy to install. I followed the directions found in the 4th gen How-to sticky and was done in about an hour and that includes doing a transmission fluid flush. I used new hosing that I bought at the time I bought the cooler. No drilling involved; you mount it by attaching it to your existing radiator. And yes, you could do the DR mod/VB mod with less worry; these tranny coolers are supposed to drop the temperature of the fluid by 60-70 degrees.

You can get the 403 at Autozone; no wait and it's the same price as most online retailers.

I have read the B&M style coolers, cooler better than the Hayden style coolers. I don't know if it is worth $50, but it is your money so you can get that or the 405 or 406 which should be around 24,000 GVW
