self wleding?

i just got my resonator taken out and it seems as if the person who did it missed a spot welding. today was the first time i heard my car from outside and it sound pretty lame. it sound like air was leaking out bad. is there a a self welding thing i can do? or is there anything that can withstand the heat that will patch the weld spot really good? thanks.

Unless you have a mig or arc welder, and know how to use it, go to meineke (unless that is where you went!)

Look in the phone book. You should be able to find a private welder who can do it for you. Those guys are usually top notch. I had a grand cherokee, and the front suspension mount cracked on it. I was looking at $2k for a brand new subframe. I took it to private welder I found in the phone book, who grinded it, welded it, and reinforced it for $100.

the guy that did mine used a mig welder. i plan on going back to him IF i find that air is leaking out. im going to try some experiments of some sort to try and see if air is acutally leaking. if it is, i will go back to the same guy and ask him to redo/add to taht same spot. im sure he will.

a MIG welder is an arc Welder. There are 4 common processes for welding, SMAW, GMAW, TMAW, and Oxy-Acetylene. GMAW Gas-Metal arc welding (MIG welding) is probably the most popular process used for welding exhausts, and every welding shop will have a good MIG welder. If it's jsut a small hole or crack where the guy missed, It could probably get done for free at almost any shop. the most they'd charge you would be $10, as it's literally a 10 second job (including wheeling the welder over to your car). Drive by a highschool shop's door during school, pop your head ni and ask if someone can weld your fricking pipe for you. Do you have any friends with welders?

I still go to high school as well. How'd you get a '97 Max, being in HS like me?

If the leak is on the bottomside if the pipe, you could probably use axle stands or wheel ramps to get it up high enough. If not, you might have to use a hoist. You got one of those in shop?

not sure where the leak is, im still waiting for my flashlight to finish charging up. we dont have a hoist but my cousin has like a 2 ton jack that i can use to lift half the car up.

about getting the max, my parents think it looks nice, not too sporty looking, 4 doors, and looks pretty safe. they still havent noticed my intake or exhaust yet..

found the leak...

my car has been sitting for a few hours so everything is cool. i started my car and laid underneath and felt the welding for any leaks. sure enough i did. i'll try and explain some how. when the guy put the pipe in to replace the resonator, he used the same size piping but just flared the ends. the part where its leaking is where there is an obstruction to stick the welder end in, i assume. there is a metal thing that surrounds the piping. the very end of it is covering part of where the welding should of been. now, the lazy a$$ guy who did the welding i guess got lazy andwelded over it. im going to take it back tomorrow to show him, but what can be done? he already welded the piping to the pipings covering thing. would he just blow torch it off? i dunno, im pissed, but i'll go in nicely and talk to the guy so he doesnt f*uck anything else up. i know many of ya'll probably dont care and im just taking up space, but i need to vent a little, sorry.

Just go back ask politely ask if you can have something fixed, as you believe it was incorrectly installed by the shop. Tell them it's only one small weld, and I bet they'll fix it pretty quickly.
