i did a search and my only options i found was using some chemicals or steaming it. is there any other eaiser way. all the local tiniting shops are asking $70 to take it off. i would rather do it myself even if it took 5hrs. but yeah, is there a simple way to do so? thanks

A buddy of mine just took a razor blade to it. He said it was a pain in the a$$. I think it really depends on how old your tint is. If it's real old, I think it peels off better. Who knows. If you asked him, he would say pay the $70.

If that's the case, take a razor to it. Just give it a try and then if it won't peel willingly, drop by the tint shop. What do you have to loose.

I've seen people use the solution with the help of a razor. I don't know what that solution is.

If your talking about the same solution that they use to tint the car...it's soapy water.

Cool... I didn't know you could use ammonia to get both layers at once... But if you can't peel it off together or can't get your hands on some ammonia then dry gas also works really well for taking off the leftover film. Just wet a towel with it and the sticky stuff rubs off really easily... no need for razor blade. I think just peeling off the tint and then rubbing off the leftover film would be quicker than the ammonia method, while safer for your upholstery and defogs.

you will probably loose some of the rear defroster lines on the glass. I wripped the tint on my rear window accidentally traking down a black light. And now its gonna cost me $80 re-tinted and a good chance of loosing my rear defroster lines.
as for the rest of the windows a razor blade and goo-gone will do the trick!

tinting over old tint

I not too sure if i would want to mess up my defrost wires. Can you tint over the old tint. Mines are not old just too light. I am going to replace the doors tint.

Yes alot of people do double layering tint... it's a good idea if you're just not satisfied with the shade that you have.

Re: Re: tinting over old tint

you know how some tint places give you lifetime warranties, would this still count when tinting over old tint? also, my rear window has a few bubbles on the bottom, would it be OK to tint over it? thanks
