Gas mileage with Shell Gas

Gas mileage with Shell Gas
Has anyone noticed a drop in gas mileage since Shell introduced the new VQ power in place of the old regular 91 octane? I lose about 40 miles per tank but when I go and use something else I get about 30 of those miles that I lost back...I think with the new VQ Power from shell they reformulated it and now you don't get that extra MPG most people get when they use shell....anyone else notice this?

Do they have that "new" VQ there in NY too? I figured it was nation-wide at shell's but shell is like only 1 year old here in colorado...practically new to us so I thought maybe it might not be new for everyone but if it is I hope they fix it.

stay away from shell if at all possible. shell was having problems a few months ago with having too much sulpher(sp) in their gas. it has been burning up fuel pumps and causing fuel delivery problems in general. chevron or bp/amoco is the way to go IMO.

Fact is, most gasolines are 99% the same and all superstitions aside, people can't tell a real world difference between BP, Shell, Texaco, or the **** juice you buy from some hole in the wall in the middle of nowhere.

To tell you the truth I can see real world difference between them. With Shell my car ran crappy. I tried it twice just in case the first one was some bad gas. It still happened. My friend at the time recommended it and I won't use it again. Texaco is good so are chevron and Exxon. I wont use Diamond Shamrock or Racetrack gas, those suck too. Real world between those. D-Shamrock made my car kinda sluggish and my car wasnt digging it. Racetrack use to be good I dont know what happened to them, but it does not feel as peppy as me using the same 89 or 91 octane gas from Chevron, Texaco, or Exxon.

This is odd...I actually see the opposite. With the OLD Shell gas, I got worse mileage (about 10 to 20 miles less per tank) then when I normally use BP or Hess.
When V-Power came out, I gave it a try. Normally, I get 250 miles when I hit the 1/4 mark however this time I got 280. Thinking it was a fluke or the way I was driving I tried another tank. This time I got 290 to the 1/4 mark. Now, I have always gotten 250 miles to the 1/4 mark except when the car was brand new. Oddly, mine got really good mileage when new and settled in after about 1000 miles.
So I went back to BP to see if something had changed...maybe V-Power cleaned some carbon. First week back on BP I got 250 miles to the 1/4 mark. Went back to Shell and got 280 miles to the 1/4 mark. I filled up with BP last week and am now in need of gas again. I'm at 260 miles and just under the 1/4 mark (meaning I hit the 1/4 mark at around 245 to 250 miles)
I don't know what it is about the Shell gas here but it has been consistently giving me higher mileage. Still, I am weary to use Shell exclusively do to the problems I have read from other members.

I've never noticed any differences in the way my car performs or feels between different gas station fillups. I've tried shell, sunoco, mobil, exxon, bp, and the no-name hole in the wall stations off I-95 in bumfux on the way to florida and back.
it's all been the same for me, so I fill at shell regularly because it's closest to my house, and if it's not broke, why fix it?

I can tell a big difference. I used to be getting 18 mpg, all city with other gas. I tried Shell V power, on my third tank, and I now get 21.16 mpg, all city. This is good for me. I really like it, I would suggest it to anyone, I don't see how you all have bad accounts with it. Just my $.02.

Back to this thread, I also notice worse mileage when using Shell vs Chevron.

Thats just your foot playing with your gas pedal to much . I went from 18mpg to 22mpg from one full run to another. I used the same gas and such. What you must realize is driving conditions, how hard you are on your car, how much stop and go, weather, etc. That all heavily plays a part in fuel cosumption. I have never seen nor felt a difference from Exxon/Mobil, Texaco, Chevron, Hess, Citgo, etc. Gas is gas people...

Use the old time-tested method of dividing your total number of miles driven on that tank of gas by the amount of gas it took to fill it back up. You will then see what we're talking about.

Hey,
I made a thread about the new shell Vpower when it came out. I tracked my gas mileage. Going from Amoco to Shell Vpower ive noticed no change in gas mileage. 19-21mpg avg. Ive used shell's Vpower since it came out, i'm not experiencing a power loss or any issues let alone lower gas milage.
I may go back to Amoco after reading this post. Amoco never gave me problems but i couldnt stay away from trying the Vpower.
I think Mobil (gas only) sucks.

No, I drove the same as before, I got better mpg using shell. My driving habits were the same, same stop and go and everything else. I'm not trying to argue, but it's just my experience, believe it or don't believe it.

I guess imma go to BP/Amoco....never used it before so Ill let you guys know the results but I always divide how many miles by how many gallons i filled up.....
I just got done on a tank from Shell and I got 300 miles and needle is just under 1/4 mark, just like the last times I used it. With Diamond Shamrock I got about 345-360 just under 1/4 so hopefully BP does about the same!!
