don't care what anyone says I change the oil and filter as close as 3k miles as I can

Nissan Filter (just because of the anti-drain valve)
Castrol GTX 20W-50.

Why is that? Why 3000 miles. where did you come up w/ that MAGIC #? Hell make it 1000 miles and be 3 times better/safer whatever?

20w-50? Where do you live? Mars?

Bill, the engine work was from a long time ago. Why it decided to creep up in the last year or so is beyond me.

Ignorance is bliss......

I would say check out my oil analysis spreadsheet below or something, but that would be useless.

BTW, Purolator, Mobile, AC Delco, BLAH BLAH BLAH filters have anti-drainback valves......

Re: because it is MY car and I can change it when I want.

You don't see the point do you? I'm not telling anyone when or where to change their oil. But I was asking for a reasonable explaination for why? It's funny that you choose 3000 miles. It's strangely similar to all the marketing ads and false consumer crap that I see. Same thing for the 20w-50? Damn that's thick. You know maximas are built to the small tolerance scale right?

But if a reaonable explaination is unavailable I'll accept your unfounded emotional one. It works for most of the other sheep out there.

I change my oil every 3-3500k. I use chevron 10w-30 and it is way cleaner than shell oil.. buy both and compare the brownish color.. Dont buy shell oil, looks dirty. IMO

Say what you want, but Im going to keep changing the oil on my Max every 3,000mi. The car has about 138,000mi and I just recently switched to sythetics.

I can understand on a new engine, Jeff's point, but on an engine thats 10yrs old, Ill stay with the 3K oil change.

why?

what's your reasoning? Fact of the matter is, say you use mobil 1 synthetic and nissan oil filter... I am telling yuo right now, that it will last atleast 8000 miles. How do I know? cause i've sent the oil in for testing. If you car is fine, there's no reason to change it at 3000 miles. And if it's save going probablys with metal shaving, changing it at 3000 miles won't help anything.

Very true, where does this magic number come from? Where it gets tricky is when you've got a euro car that comes with Mobil 1 standard. Still willing to do it every 3K? Synth is superior when it comes to hot and cold temps, but still must fight dirt. My friend with a new 530i is planning on 7,500 and readily admits he thinks the Mobil 1 can go longer than that.

It must be fun to be in marketing, to see if you can change people's behavior. 20W-50 has no benefit whatsoever, but I'd say unless you live in Hawaii it has detriment. I've seen people debate 10W-40 vs. 10W-30 and which is better. They both cost the same, don't they? 5W-30 is recommended and optimum imho.
