Well it looks like a few washers are needed to move the caliper out about 2.5mm (1/4")... or the rotor disc needs to be moved inboard (via the hat). I haven't tightened down everything yet because I need to go out to buy a hex socket to fit the dang bolts... but I'm pretty sure about the needed fix...

BTW... the new rotors still appear lighter than the Stillen Crossdrilled ones... I'll bring a scale soon...

My recommendation to those who bought the kit... hold off your install until I figure this out... unless you don't mind having your car down a little while...

For a sneak peak....

The washers are going between the bracket and the CALIPER(corrected).

I'm documenting it all... will post instructions upon completion... gotta go to autostore now...argh!

Re: rotors are about

Not that it's a big deal, but it seems like this isn't a 'open up the box and bolt on' kinda mod. Maybe the manufacturer can fix this bug?

OK... finally done with one side... with exception of hydraulic part (yes... I know it's important too!)... Ran out of light...

I ended up mounting the bracket INBOARD of the original mounting points...
BRACKET REAR VIEW
Notice that I had to remove the lower strut bolt to mount caliper...

I still had to stack 2 small washers on each mount... between the caliper and new bracket to center the caliper over the rotor...
CENTERED SETUP

I put my wheels back on...

I picked the right rim to show off the WILWOOD logo..hehe
CLOSE UP
I also have my stock 16" SE rims... maybe put them on later..

MORE TO COME TOMORROW>>> It's suppose to rain.... oh well...

WOOHOO! I'M STILL ALIVE!

I finally bled the brake system and cleaned up the mess of tools...

I took it out for a spin to heat cycle the pads/rotors... It's hard to get an impression so soon... but here goes...

While the car is stopped and the engine running... the pedal can almost go down to the floor... It was firm and stopped near the top when the brake booster wasn't helping.

While driving (I kept it under 40mph) it takes much less pressure on the pedal to stop... takes some getting use too... It wasn't great on the 1st stop but seemed to get progressively better (breaking in?) with each stop. I drove it around for about 20 minutes then came home. I'll cycle the brakes some more tomorrow... I did notice a little "squealing" when almost coming to a full stop (I didn't apply any "goop" to the back of the pads).

Big Thanks!

Thanks alot for letting us in on the brake install, especially all of the great photos.

I agree that ~8 per front wheel is a lot of savings.

I haven't gotten my brakes yet, but I'm hoping that you're still planning on writing up a HOW2 before I have to do mine (being a Newbie).

Keep the insights on the "break in" coming.

Re: Big Thanks!

Jon,

I will do a final writeup when I hear from Brian regarding the use of my "extra" washers to move the calipers out a bit...

Day 2: Not much of that mushy feeling in the pedal anymore... The pads/rotors have not completely settled in (The pads haven't scoured a good pattern on the rotors yet). The feel is more like what I had without my huge/heavy 18s... which is good.

NE1 know how the (2) factory rear proportioning valves work (the ones screwed on between the MC and rear brake lines? I'm wondering if we can open up the orifice in the valves to play with the rear bias (need the help of those of you who took fluid dynamics! hehe).

Can you please try ur 16" rim tires. I am quite curious
on what clearances you have.

Thank you...

Hmmm...will they fit? I thought you needed at least 17" for clearance?

16" SE rims

I'll try to put one on maybe tomorrow... The weather is not that great... suppose to rain by the time I'm off work.

I have just over 1/2" (eyeballing it) with my Lowenharts...
Brian also proposed using shims between the hat and rotor (instead of at the calipers) so we can keep the extra 2mm on the calipers... We'll have to see if that will work...

Hmmm, what do Stillen x-drilled weigh vs stock?

I just went back to verify... that 8lbs was over Stillen rotors... What do the stock ones weigh? Possibly more weight savings?

Any final tally of how many washers are needed? I gotta plan my trip to Home Depot Motorsports.

Was there ever a final write-up?

definitely more than a 3lb difference between

stock rotors and wilwoods!! the stockers are heavy.

I used 3/8" washers, 4 of them.
