How much to pay for 5-speed Tranny?

Hey guys,

I'm about to get my transmission replaced or rebuilt. I figured it would be better to replace it with a used one.
How much should I pay for a used 5-speed transmission w/o LSD?
All the junkyards are asking an arm and a leg around here. Of course I want low mileage as well.
thanks,

Bruce

I'd expect $700-$800 for a tranny w/ decent miles on it. For low miles your lookin' at closer to $1K.

$500 for a tranny with 30k is a good deal. Not unheard of, but the seller's asking price of $650 is pretty reasonable, I think.

I don't know why people give sellers a hard time about not offering items for sale at rock bottom prices. If the price is way too high, people won't buy, and eventually the price will come down. That's how a free market system works.

That's the best way to do it, if you have decent mechanical abilities. That way you know exactly what you got. The Maxima 5 speed is a pretty simple tranny to overhaul.

yeah, Dixit had some images up on his website that I checked... I've never touched a tranny, 'sides draining/refilling but I think it sounds like a fun project for learning.
