Hey guys,
I'm looking at purchasing a Maxima tomorrow, it's a 1993 GXE with 116xxx miles. I've looked around this forum a bit and am a little worried about VTC and manifold bolts. From just a few minutes of searching I came across quite a few warnings on these parts. Should I be worried or go ahead and get the car. I'm buying it for a daily driver and need to know if this year Maxima can be considered dependable with this many miles on it. Asking price is $5500 but I hope to get it for around $5000, it is in very good condition and well maintained. If you could help me out I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks,
John

Check the manifolds close to see if->

all the bolts are there. Or try to start it up while cold(ie. 1st start of the day) and see if you hear any whistles or screeching noises. If it goes away in a few minutes, then it's a broken stud that seals itself once it warms up. Good luck. No car is perfect, you just know what to look for. Also check to see if all the windows go up and down properly. Window regulators are another bug we got. And to confirm, the non-se 92-94 maximas still used the VG based engine(no vtc assemblies)

thanks for the help!

I feel a bit better now, was a little worried last night after reading a few of the engine problems but I think for the price they are asking I'm going to get the car. Will check the manafold studs and hopefully the car will be cold when I get there today so I can listen to it at first startup. I noticed the rear windows did not work but thought it was some child safety or something. So that might help bring the price down.
Thanks guys!
Later,
John
