Easy way to paint wheels, directions inside
I've had a few inquiries on how I pained my wheels so here is what I did.
Take wheels off car.
Remove center caps.
Wash everything with soap and water.
Sand with 220 grit sand paper, just ruff the wheels and smooth out blemishes.
I also used steel wool to clean the holes where the lugs go in.
Wash wheels again, clean all the dirt.
Mask tire and valve stem.
Paint using directions on can. I used Dupli-color wheel paint, in bronze. The paint drys very quick, applies well, but takes many coats to cover well. Paint with the wheels laying flat to avoid runs. Let dry for some time, I found that the paint was dry within 30 minutes or less. Reinstall center caps after a few solid hours. I reinstalled my wheels after only 20 minutes of drying time.
You can clear coat after the paint has cured, but I didn't. Also I only painted the face of the wheels. It took 1 can but getting another can is not a bad idea. I removed my wheels weights too, b/c it's so cheap to get them balanced. Do that after the paint has had a few solid days to dry.

Some more suggestions! If you repaint your aftermarket rims (I have Motegi MR8s), they have a very thick layer of original paint. It took me 2 cans of aircraft stripper and a lot of sanding both with sandpaper and steelwool.
ATTENTION here: Directions on Aircraft stripper say that it takes 10-15 min for paint to dissolve. In my case it dissolved within 10 seconds. After 2 minutes product would not work anymore, so you gotta send it well within that time.
Just as said above, use special masktape to cover whatever you don't want to paint or if you want to have polished lip. No scotch or dugtape or anything, or you will spend your time miserably removing glue off bear metal (yes I know

What did you tape the wheels off with? I've tried lots of stuff and nothing sticks to the tires. I don' want a lip so masking off the tires is a must. Don't want to mess around with the index cards either as they didn't work well anyway.

Just sanding might be fine if you have worn paint or want to change the colour, but if you have bubbled paint from rust it is probably easier to just use paint or "aircraft" stripper on it instead.
