Does anyone have a hitch on the back of their maxima? I think I am going to put one on the back of my '93 so I can haul around my bike easier. I was wondering what I should expect to pay and if anyone has any ideas as to what type I should get so that it looks as discrete at possible.

The type of trunk mounted rack you get depends if you have a spoiler or not. The spoiler one is longer and curved so it can go over the spoiler. The brand I have is "Hollywood" I think. I bought at a local bike shop and they test the fit before I bought it. On the bag the rack came in it listed the models and years of cars it would work with. I don't recall the price. One thing to do is put something under the rubber contact points of the rack. On my 97 Max the rack left some subtle marks on it. Nobody noticed or said anything in when I turned it in at the lease's end. On my 2000 max (bought not leased)I know place small towels under the rubber contact points. I got towels in the same color as the car, but that doesn't matter.

I have a hitch on mine it is pretty unnoticable. It came with the car so I dont know the cost. Are you talking about the bike haulers that lay on your trunk or connected to the hitch and dont touch the trunk? I was thinking of taking it off because of the weight but I can use it to pull around my freinds jetski.

I DO NOT recommend those godforsaken trunk lid top ones. I've ruined too many cars to use one, and I have a spoiler and cant use it here. Instead, get a receiver style trailer hitch and use a bike rack like that. I will get one put on this summer, because I have trailers to tow (to tow motorcycle) and I have a receiver style bike rack on another vehicle. Go to www.draw-tite.com to see a pic of a hitch.

I have a receiver hitch, I think made by Draw-Tite. It isn't very noticeable at all when I don't have the ball on, but I don't think one of those bike racks would fit into it. The receiver is the smaller size (1 1/2"?), and all of the racks I've seen are the for the larger size. I think I paid less than $200 for it.

I am sorry, the original post was on a hitch for a bike rack and I went off on a tangent about trunk mounted racks.

Well the other vehicle in this family is a Quest van and it has the 2 1/4" size. The hitch however, is the smaller size that can fit the maxima but only goes through an adaptor plate that makes it fit the 2 1/4" size. So yes, it will fit.
