Anyone using 100/80W lights w/o harness w/o problems?

If you are thinking about putting any light with a higher wattage then stock you are going to fry your socket. sure there are people doing it and they think its ok since it hasent given them any problems, i have done it mylsef, but its a very slow process and over time it will burn up your socket, you wont even notice until it starts to flicker or suddenly go on and off, you can jiggle it and it will work for about another month until its completly fried and you loose the socket and bulb, if you run highwer wattage bulbs get a APC upgraded headlight harness.

I did it for 6 months before the stock harness fried, two days before I got the harness. . . I put in the harness and it failed after a month, connections just failed for some reason or another. So I just got Piaas. . .

Thanks

I've had my 80/100W green headlights in for atleast 4 months now and no problems. Who knows maybe I should just break down and buy the harness, but I'll most likely be a fool and wait for them to burn out...

Chris: Have you noticed the rash of problems with the APC harness? >>
It's seems that a lot of the guys getting them recently have had connector and relays go bad. Us guys that got the harness a while back, don't seem to have problems. I think that APC is skimping on parts and quality to meet the high demand.

On my 4th gen max the harness burned out 2 times. After using the 80/100 bulbs. Eventually I made one from ford truck light harness "they are really heavy duty wire" and used some relays and powered everything from the battery. The total for the parts was about $ 20. Did not have any problems after the fix.

I used 10 Ga power wire from the battery. A total of four 12v relays, This enables the factory fuses to operate properly. I mounted one relay pack near each headlight. Use a volt meter and label each wire from the original nissan harness, (1)high, (2)low, (3)ground. The relays have to be wired for positive trip. The relays will have terminals 85,87,87a,30,86. Only use 4 of the five. 87a is not used. The negative wire on the factory harness will not be used. The ford harness that I used came from a salvage yard on an 92-96 F-150. They cost around $2. Be shure to fuse the main power wire at the battery. I used 2 waterproof fuse holders and 2 30 amp fuses. I placed the 2 relays together and taped them back to back so that all the wiring could be simplified. The ford 9004 harness ground wire should be taken to the ground shared by the relays, Locate a clean bolt on the body of the car and that should do fine. Look at the attached diagram and hopefully it will explain better. The diagram applies to one side of the car only. This only took me about 30 minutes to wire up and install, it may not be as easy as the 55 dollar harness, but it was over half the price and all I lost was about 30 minutes time.
