so i got one of my Stillen side skirts yesterday, but...

it was folded in half in the box. so i called SWA/SCO and they said thats how stillen ships all their stuff, all you need to do is lay it outside in the heat and it will go back to its original shape. well thats great, but its raining and crummy here (well, it was last night) and now its probably 60* outside. is this thing really gonna go back to its shape if i put it outside? the warmest its getting lately is 70, at the most. these arent going on til spring, but i want to make sure now that its gonna regain its shape properly. those of you who got these (i know its like, half the board ) and live in the northeast, what did you guys do?

The body shop that paints it for you can bake it in their spray booth.

No worries. I got the skirts like that too. Just lay them out and let them get back into their original shape. I left it like that for a few months in my garage before installing them.

your right, the body shop could do it, but i dont wanna wait until spring for this thing to return back, ya know, i wanna make sure there are no defects in it right away.

blackcat, how long did you let yours sit before it returned to its right shape? your in BC, so im sure your even colder than we are.

Nah, I don't think there's much difference in temp between the west coast and the east coast during the winter. Depends on how close to the water you are. I think about 5 months. I got my body kit in the late fall (Nov.) and I waited until the spring (Mar-Apr?) for the weather to get better. I took my time finding a good painting price as well.

You should bring the kit inside your house. That's my suggestion as its always warm in the house and that'll allow it to bend back to normal quicker.

I just took that long because I wasn't in a rush to get them on. I think they went back to normal earlier than 4-5 months for me even though my detached garage is unheated.

well, as of this morning, 2 days after i unboxed it, it is SLOWLY regaining its shape. the weather here has been terrible lately, in the high 50s to 60s and rainy and crappy, so im sure that is not helping, plus this thing is on the floor in my basement. hopefully one day soon itll be nice and i can take it outside.

tedo, i really wouldnt sweat it too much, like black said before his were fine, and they told me stillen ships everything like that if they have to, so you should be ok, its just annoying to watch this thing.

no worries, when i got mine from Stealin i used a heat gun and about 20min later they looked totally normal. Funny thing is when the body shop paints them they will bend from the heat(if they use stands not hangers) while baking them to dry. Depends on how your body shop does it, mine used stands and they bent alot actually from drying. So i let them sit outside for a day in the sun then installed them.

nice, ill have to track down a heatgun then. ill ask my body shop what they use too, stands or hangers.

how high did you have the heat gun set to, and how far away did you hold it? i figure about a foot away? haha, would a hair dryer work?
