Oh SH*T

Well it looks like I am officially retarded. After installing my new injector today i was putting everything back on. When I was putting on the lower collector plate I managed to drop me allen wrench down the hole and all the way down into the intake manifold. Now I have an my allen wrench in cylinder #2

And what’s worse? Now I can't take it apart to get to the allen because it was my only allen that size!! The only thing I can think of to get it out would be to tape a magnet to a string and pray, which still doesn’t look too good.

Anyways, don’t mind me I’m just ranting at my stupidity. If your still reading I hope you guys got a good laugh.

Thanks,
Eric

yeah, I really don't want to take it all apart again, so lets hope the magnet saves my life!

(just have to find one of the hard solid ones, all the ones on the fridge or those stupid flimsy ones)

Take out the coil pack and spark plug on cylinder 2 and use one of those extending magnets to fish it out that way - it'll be easier - and no i'm not speaking from experience :-x

I wish I could, but I haven't been able to find a magnet, let alone me having one of those extending ones. I have a set coming to my house right now, but still I will have to take off the intake manifold, which I have no experience with

O well, more learning for me. Maybe I'll figure out other problems while im down there. I'm trying to look at the positives of this, if any.

radio shack sells small high-strength magnets. use some twine and tie a string around it in a couple directions so you're sure the magnet won't come off... the block and heads are aluminum, so the only steel in the intake that the magnet will stick to are the valve stems and the allen wrench. you should be fine for getting the wrench out like that.

or find a small speaker magnet..there's a hole in the middle of them. tie the rope (not weak string) and go fishing. it might save u some time.

but still I will have to take off the intake manifold, which I have no experience with
I'm having a hard time visualizing what you did. When you say "lower collector", I'm thinking that it's the lower part of the intake manifold. Then you said the above statement which makes me think you didn't have the manifold off.

Even if you did have the upper manifold off, the allen would have had to slide past one of the valves, which would have to be open, in order to get into your cylinder... I'm still confused...

Which cylinder were you replacing the injector on? 1, 3, and 5 can only be accessed by taking the intake manifold off... baffled...

thanks danNY, but i have the magnet coming right now. I got the new allens, and i was going to strip it down, and then I figured i should try to fish it out before I pass the point of no return. Thanks guys for all the help, for a while i just wanted to throw a rag in the gas tank and light it. You saved me and the max.

Now, lets hope the fish are biting

Good old Sears sells a mechanics tool that is a powerful magnet on the end of a flexable wire coil rod prox 24" long. The nice thing about sears is you can go and actually see the tool before you buy it. Just a sugestion

heh.. I just realized you were doing a VG.. that's my big thumb in that shot, BTW.

yeah, those ports are short enough you should easily be able to stick a magnet in there and pull the allen wrench out. I did it myself right about the same time I took that picture!

can you confirm which cylinders they are?
pull the plug wires off one by one and see if the idle changes on them.. then determine if it's the fuel or ignition that's not working.

your EGR isn't stuck open, is it? pull the vacuum hose going to it and plug the hose. see if it idles better then.
