Coming home from volleyball, I got into a little tangle with a black VW Sirraco (sp?). I have seen this VW at the street races before...."supposedly" a 13 second car. It has a set of Momo Racer wheels, lowered, pillar guages, and a big front mount intercooler. I always thought he was turboed, but it turns out he's got a SC. The car sounds like an orgy of crickets. Very sweet car. I don't know if it's a VR6 transplant or if someone makes a 16V SC kit.

The race happened from a stoplight (empty long stretch of road-we were looking to race). Off the line I took off quickly, but it seemed he didn't want to bite at first. The SECOND I drop it into 2nd, he punches it in 1st. *******!!! I was stuck at 3000rpms in 2nd which gave me a nice bog to start the race. I planted my foot and by the time I hit 3rd his rear bumper was on my front bumper. Up to the top of 3rd (90mph) he had opened up the gap another car. So he got 2 cars on me, starting 1 car back and starting the race 1st and he used his full 1st gear. I was stuck in low 2nd. Call me crazy, but I think I might have been neck and neck with the VW until about 90mph if he wouldn't have done the Riceboy race. I think I would have taken him hard off the line and he would have had o make up the difference.

What do you think?

I use to love all kinds of VW's. Man... hooked up Sciroccos are extrememly rare due to the fact that most VW racers go for the Corrados and GTIs. And the fact that it's not the most pretty VW out there.

And the Scirocco sorta looks like a Corrado ... sorta.

that's like saying the new VW Jetta sorta looks like the old VW Jetta. It's practically the same car.

I had a Scirocco 16V with a 125hp profogger NOS kit for a few years. That light little car would haul ***. The unibody was crap though, flex city. And small inside, jeezum. I didnt know they did a SC for a 16v, so I bet he had a VR6 transplant.

Hey, at least he had mods on ya...

..I got pulled away on by another max this morning. Some guy about twice my age too. (has nothing to do with him beating me, just shocked me that he wanted to race)

I have no excuses.

All I can think is he did some custom Vortech setup on his 16V Scirocco. I'd think a lightweight VW with a VR6 and a SC would absolutely blow me away because I've seen dynos of SC VR6s putting down about 270 fwhp and 200 fwtq. That kind of power in a 2200lb car should blow me away. He pulled on me about at the rate most LT1s pull on me...a slow and steady walk.

The 16v is a 2 liter, right?

If so, then yes, there's an S/C kit out for it. It's been a while, actually. I remember reading European Car(back in '97 when I was thinking about getting a VW Golf) and there was an ad for a centrifugal S/C for the 2.0 engine.
And now, Neuspeed offers a Roots-type blower for the 2.0 as well. It prolly just fit the newer ones, tho.

The 85-88 Scirocco came with a 1.8 16v. The intake plenum faces the drivers side, on the Jetta and Golfs it faces the passanger side. The CIS KE Jetronic ECU system would need a 5th fuen injector to support a SC. It would have to have been a swap, or very $$$ conversion.
