yes it's too much. I suggest you locate a couple of .org members in your area and you guys get together on a weekend and put them on. All you'll need in tools are:

1) set of 1/2" drive socket wrenches and ratchet
2) breaker bar for above
3) spring compressors (rent from autozone)
4) pipe wrench

That is nowhere near $150 in tools and you'll have them for other jobs.

Get some beer and have a barbecue while you're at it and make it a fun event.

Or go to some independent shop. Chains suck. Go to cars.com then to the cartalk section (yes I listen to public radio at times). There are recommendations for mechanics by area in there...you can even specify make.

Never go to sears for strut. I had Monroe black ( the best one they sell at sears)put in for my 95 Accord and after two year they rode like crap (they bottom out when it cold outside). But, I only paid only 400 with alignment. My worn OEM strut rode better. the good part is they give out life time warrantee on parts and labor, but who wants replacement, they are crap struts.

Make sure you put in good stuff like KYB, Koni, etc or else it waste of money.

yup, look around the regional forums or somehow find someone that's close. I typically charge $120 for a spring/strut install... but I'm only 1000 miles away.

expect to pay anywhere from a 6-pack to $100-$150, depending on how good of a friend you are.

That price is rediculous.. Shops should charge from $150-$250. But like everyone says, get some help from someone on the org, and it looks like you did. Goodluck.

$695 bucks ???? thats robbery. And why are you going to sears for car work are there no reputable shops around your area ? i wouldnt take my car to sears by my house if they paid me 695 bucks. And i agree get a strut compression tool ($30) for a good one and get to work i did my whole car in 4 hours
