Ugly. Metal scraping on concrete. You'll know it when you hear it.

I'll almost guarantee that us that haven't lower our cars have never heard it. Finally, a good use for 6+ inches of ground clearance. Seriously, have you ever scraped the underside of your front bumper on a curb while parking? Imagine that noise coming and going in about 1/2 a second. You did it with the new suspension?

Bottoming out the car on the ground: "SCRAPE"

Bottoming out the suspension: "BANG"...bounce...bounce

Both of these are accompanied by a wince and probably some expletives from the driver and any passengers.

I'm pretty sure he was referring to suspension, but I will say that I would scrape all the time before I lowered mine. I've hit the front and bottom pulling into underground parking garages. Since I dropped it, the only thing I've ever scraped is the trailer hitch. Maybe I'm just more careful now.

You can feel and hear it...

I freakin bottomed out a few times on my STOCK suspension, even as a 4X4 with 17" rims and stock suspension... Basically driveways and gas stations in NYC..

Re: You can feel and hear it...

I don't think i've ever scraped. I'm asking becase now that I have the Sprints and Koni (on softest settings), every time I hit a semi big bump on the highway, it makes a huge bang. I think it's becase I have the 18's and the new suspension stuff. I cut a notch out of the bumpstop, but I just wonder if I'm bottoming out or not

Don't worry about it... you're not bottoming out your suspension, its from the really thin tires. I've heard the same bang after I got my rims. Since the wheels are so big and the tires are so thin and your suspension is so much stiffer, bumps like that shake everything in your car including the car itself. It's funny... I put my stock SE rims back on in the winter, and when spring comes around and I put my 18"s back on the same bumps that I would normaly go over quietly scare the crap outta me when I go over them just a little to fast. Just learn to watch the road more carefully and anticipate the bumps... that way you can slow down first and you won't get that loud bang when you go over them.

If you heard a metal on metal bang, then you bottomed out. The wheels sound different, you can tell the difference in sound.
