I went to the NYC auto show yesterday and saw the 2002 altima with the 3.5 240 hp engine! What is the maxima going to have? The same engine or a more powerful engine? I was really surprised to see the altima having that engine!

I was at the show as well and noticed that the
new Altima doesn't have the restrictive Fpipe design
found on previous generations. So I
guess there's no need for Ypipe anymore on the new
Max. The dual exhaust looks sweet.

The Facts

Spoke at length to the director of product development at Nissan-USA durring the Auto Show Sunday... Their is NO information on the MAXIMA YET... however their will be an overlap in July thru December where buyers will have the choice of purchasing a 2001 Maxima with 222 hp or a Altima with 240 hp... many 2001 maxima owners voiced their disaproval yesterday...

The NEW maxima is not going to be out till spring 2002..

Since the altima moved up in class, they stated that the maxima MAY do the same, however NOT the Q-45 engine..

They were considering the AWD feature, and the Six speed SE as a limited production "R" version... Still WAY too early to speak...waiting to see the sales numbers for the Sentra SE-R ...

I have Her name and e-mail ( BTW she was very helpfull in guiding me in the correct direction regarding my production numbers on my 99 SE-Limited RED 5 speed) she said she would do some checking and e-mail me the total number of cars produced like mine within a few weeks...

Will keep in contact with her for Maxima Updates...

The Facts as I know them..
