Tranny cooler questions...again
#1
I know this has been beat to death and I mean DEATH! I searched for 15min and said F' it, I am just going to ask.
I found the Hayden unit for $36.00 to my door. Now, outside of NISSAN DEXTRON III fluid, what else do I need? Does it come with the mounting hardware, the connectors...etc. I have heard people saying they have to go out and buy more hose...how much will I need for a 4th gen install? How much does that cost? Where at?
Sorry for some many questions that have been asked before, but I don't want to get into something I can't handle...I hate surprises.
Finally...does anyone have a website that shows how to do this? I KNOW someone did..I just can't remember who!
Thanks,
SHUMAX

ok let me tell you
it comes with all hardware necessary for the install. My friend that has the 96 said he needed one extra hose from the store because the one that was supplied was too short. So he used the other one supplied to replace the short hoses and the one from the store for the hose going from the cooler to the Tranny. It comes with everything. So dont worry.

FYI Hayden makes the 404, it's just a model number, 401,402,403,404, they just get bigger in size, that's all. It comes with 4ft of hose, which is only enough to connect one side. Go to an auto parts store and buy another 4ft of TRANSMISSION HOSE, don't use any other kind!! It's a real easy install. Look in Shoptalk under mod's and someone did the install complete with instructions. Good luck

It's in Maxima.org under shoptalk, modifications, tranny cooler install. https://maxima.org/shoptalk/sub_modi...er/index.shtml
see if that works. good luck

Just my $.02, I wouldn't recommend going over the 404, You can get your tranny fluid "too cool". It needs to be at least a certain temperature to work effeciently. As is, with a 404, the fluid will take longer to heat up to operating temp. But that's just my $.02. Good luck.

I put on the 405 model many months ago.
The hardest part is mounting the unit.
There isn't much space to work in without tearing things out of the engine.
As far as does it work or do anything?
I don't know, car stills runs at normal temp.
In theory I guess it does help cool down the oil.
You will need extra hose.
Does anyone have any figures or is proof that it does anything?

Did you even go to that website and look at the one I am thinking of buying? Did you look at the specs? Did you look at the dimensions? It is more the size of the 403 but it has a different design. Did you even look at the picture attachment I put with my original post? I don't like the looks of the 400 series with their exposed fins. Look at the 1677 model before saying it's too big.

I was not trying to flame you. I was trying to give you some advice. As I said, just my $.02, if you don't want my advice, ignore. You won't hurt my feelings, I'm speaking from the experience Iv'e had doing the install Myself. I did look at your cooler by the way. I don't know the spec's, but it looks a lot bigger than my 403. It does look a lot sturdier, but I didn't have any prob's installing mine as far as bending the fins goes, you just have to take your time. You might have a little more difficult time mounting the 1677, as the 400 series puts the hose mounts at a good angle to run them right to the radiator and tranny, making life a whole lot easier. Unless your going to pay someone to do it for you. Again, JUST MY $.02. Good luck

Specs: 403 7.5x12.5x3/4
1677 5.5x11.0x3/4
It is actually a smaller cooler than the 403 but it is a heavier duty cooler so it is probably the equal of the 403. I am just curious why the 400 series became gospel for the maxima. The 600 series looks more like a factory install and it also looks more durable. My wife's car (dodge intrepid) has a 1677 series style tranny cooler on hers that came stock.

The 1677 looks identical to the models that B&M sell. They are a more efficent design, so you can go with a physically smaller one that dissapates the same amount of heat. Saturday I put in the smallest B&M (11" x 5 3/4"). It works well, almost too well in a cool climate. It was just under 50 degrees this morning, and it took quite a bit longer for the fluid to come up to full operating temp (the trans will not shift into 4th gear until it does). So you don't want to go too big for your local conditions. Also, the cooler blocks some of the air flow going through the condeser & radiator. You can reach the point that you begin to effect the operation of the A/C, or cause the engine to run hotter (a transmission cooler, aside from blocking the radiator, has no effect on engine temperature.)
