The VQ40 is a taller block and won't easily fit in the Maxima anyways.

I don't think a VQ40 in a Maxima is possible or truly worth it, for a lot of reasons. For one, it obviously won't clear the hood and I think it'll be by more than just an inch or two. I think it would look incredibly stupid to be driving around in a "sporty sedan" with something big sticking out of your hood. I already hate hoods on Maxima's with any kind of bulge or scoop to them. Secondly, the raised displacement is entirely in the stroke, and as someone has already mentioned, that large of an increase in stroke is going to hurt revving capabilities.
But...at the same time, the stroke is still smaller than the bore. If the stroke were a lot more than the bore it would be one thing, but it's still smaller. So who knows how well it's going to operate. Surely Nissan wouldn't use it if it were terribly bad.

I was thinking, VQ40DE (possibly lowering motor mounts) knife edging crank with '04 6-spd, TB from VK56DE (if compatibleVQ35 ported and match honed heads, with aftermarket cams, (ground for mid-range tohigh rpm power), new springs and retainers, MEVI or VI from gen 5 or 5.5, Quaifed diff, and maybe a bolt on S/C or turbo manifold with an upgraded Garret GT3540, 4" custom cat back, and a stand alone to deal with ECU compatibility...hood will be easy to modify if necessary....would look really nice with custom wide-body kit holding some 275/35ZR18 Volk GT7s....or if the stand alone is too expensive and you're going all-motor, you could just get a reflashed JWT ECU, to allow it to spin to 7500 or higher...with tuning, trial and error, I'm thinking 335 crank HP all motor is possible with over torque easily over 300..550 plus blown....600 plus with a huffer and some giggle gas....just hoping....may try and do it myself...just trying to work out the feasiblity...thanks again for the input

It runs 8.3 @ 176 in the 1/4 with street tires and with the stock open deck has 1000+ rwhp .
If you were looking for it built for na id say good but for speed the 3.5 with a few thousand in work will be stronger than a sh$t brick house.
but can yo0u fit a VQ35DETT in a max?

that's why, plus it's original....VQ40DET or VQ40DES is unheard of, especially in a FWD 4th Gen max...but good point....so let's do it in a G35...I mean G20
