In my case i looked behind the fog light housing.. but i dont have fog lights..

for you .. bump the bottom of the thing and see if the filter fell down or not... and it would be considerable louder..

i had that fear for about 1 week if the filter fell off or not.. and if i was running un filtered air what would happen..

I cut out the plastic fender lining under the filter for better air flow.
My filter hasn't fell off yet.
If it does fall off there will probably be an unexpected thump as my tire runs over it.

you are going to have to clean it twice as often as you should because that plastic fender lining was there to keep most of the dirt out... and snow and rain if you live in those regions

1HOTMAX...if it's tight you shouldn't have a problem...it will be very loud w/o the filter

I live in Florida. Usually a lot of rain. But we're in a drought right now.
I clean it about every 10K or so.
Water is no problem, I've driven in a down pour with no lining on what so ever. Intake fully exposed and had no problem.

I solved this problem by atucally bolting the filter to the metal of my car. It was pretty easy. When I get my camera back, I will take some photos for you all. All I did was install some "headless" bolts into the filer, drilled holes in the car, pushed the filter (and black piece) up through those holes and used locking nuts to secure it. Very nice set-up. Easy to do as well.
