Totalled the Maxima

Heading to go fly today some jerkoff tried to do an illegal U-turn in front of me and took me out. Tagged me right in the driver's side wheel and then the rest of the driver's side all the way back to the back door. Then I went flying into a ditch and missed a telephone pole and gas line by inches and ripped the front end off when I hit the embankment and came to a halt a few feet away from about 20 RVs and camper trailers. Front suspension is demolished, the entire frame is tweaked, shattered an SSR comp, ripped the front bumper off, demolished both driver's side doors, who knows what else.

I took some pics but I'm not in the mood to upload them right now.

Time to decide if I want to get another maxima (since I know lots about them and have lots of parts) or move on to something bigger and better, or cheaper and faster, etc.

Neal some links as your car is surely totalled. Stick it to that idiot's insurance company BIGTIME!!

http://www.claimcoach.com/index.htm?...tm~bottomright
http://www.insurance.wa.gov/oic/contact.asp
http://www.stephencryanpc.com/about.html
http://www.consumersautodetective.co...settlement.htm

For ref: I got $8,000 grand on my old 1992se because I submitted detailed documents on recent mods and engine replacement etc... If you need a copy of that for reference, let me know. Their original offer was like $3,000

Thanks for those links Jeff.

I just uploaded some of the camera phone pics. I didn't really take any pics of the opposite side or the rear to show the tweaking, just mostly the impact damage and skid marks.

Damn Neal, sorry to hear that. Glad you're ok, as many people always say, cars can be replaced, you can't. Hope you don't drop out of the max scene man, you've been a guiding light to a lot of people on the boards. As you said, you know maxes really well. You haven't gotten into the FI side of maxes yet, why drop out before you have that experience under your belt. I know you've been planning on it, so why quit now??

Either way, i'm glad you're safe, and good luck with whatever you choose.

The other driver was cited as being at fault. I don't know what the actual citation read, but yes he was at fault. Basically I was at a fork in the road where you can go left or go straight. He was oncoming, and tried to do a U turn around the tip of the fork to get going the same direction I was going, except he tried to do it right in front of me and I tried to evade but he just kept coming and punted me off the road and almost into that telephone pole. I'm really lucky I didn't hit that telephone pole the 25 or so campers and RVs which are about 10 feet from where my car came to rest. The pic of the skid marks has me standing right up against an RV, so I was heading right for them but luckily me launching thru the air and then my super low car dug into the ground and brought me to an abrupt halt. I just can't believe I didn't hit that telephone pole or the gas line that was sticking up.

Weird things go through your head when you are flying out of control... I remember thinking something along these lines right after he hit me and I saw myself going off the road towards that pole. I thought "Wow this is going to be pretty interesting..." I don't know why I thought that but it's what went through my head.

I had that feeling too when i got into an accident. An older lady bashed into my drivers side door in my 93 Lumina and sent me over the curb where i avoided a tree and telephone pole. Time seemed to stop when she hit me. Everything was in slow motion.

The other weird thing that went through my mind right before the car impacted mine was something like "There's no way this is happening. This is a dream."

Neal, you will have time to think about another car later. Right now, concentrate on getting a rental approved from their insurance company(make sure it's the same size/quality ie.. not a metro!) and start making a mod/repair list (with prices for purchase and labor) to submit to the insurance company. The WILL LOWBALL the living hell out of you first. Don't accept it. It's a sucker offer.

I'm so sorry to see this Neal. I really think you should go after the ins comp and get your money. Then build the **** out of another Max. How many boosted parts do you have right now? You don't want to take a loss on those. When your done building make a brush gaurd to go on the bumper so it doesn't happen again. You still got two good rims right? Thats a good start. Not to mention lots of engine parts that probably weren't effected. Slowly pick up the pieces. Again sorry for everthing that has happened.

Neal... Jeff's right. Get all your ducks in a row first and foremost. I know from experience that you'll need every bit of info you can have at your disposal when you confront the insurance company. 9 times out of 10, they are NOT looking out for your best interests, so you'll have to look out for them.

In the bigger scheme of things, though, at least YOU are ok.
(as a sidebar to this, you could always "discover" you're suffering from PTSD - Post Traumatic Stress Disorder - and work THAT angle... )

Yea in July I was in a roll over and my father was driving and when the car went into the grass at 70 mph and I heard rocks undre the car then the car started swirving I was thinking "Damn, if we go into those trees, we are ****ed." Then all I remember is trying to open my door but couldn't. ****ing weird in a roll over. You dont know your car is on the side. Till you take off the belt and are stepping on the door.
