Should i get rid of my max.

For about a week now i have been debating weather or not to get rid of my max. there is nothing wrong with the car mechanically and it runs really well. i just want something sporty. i was thinking 2001 Audi S4. i have a couple friends with S4's and i kinda like them. what do you guys think should i get rid of the MAX. i think i could get $8000 for it.should i sell it. here are some pics
http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/633706/2

Your $$$ better be long if you're planning on picking up an S4.

Repairs are expensive and often.

That is the question you should ask yourself. I wouldnt ask for others advice, you need to look at it from a day to day perspective.

Can you afford it?
Do you want it more than your Maxima?

I think that you should do more research before purchasing a car.

That S4 is great but what about the long run? Compared to the max I think that the S4 may cause more problems in the up coming years.

a coupe friend have S4's, my bro has a 6speed G35 coupe, another buddy has an EVO. the max is not a slow dog but it is at the bottom of the food chain.

i don't want it more than the max i just think i want something else

haha, after posting this, I realized that somebody else already corrected Jeff's math, so I erased my post...

But aside from that, I checked out an A4 (same frame/body as S4) when I was looking for cars a month ago, and let me just say that the backseat has probably less than half the leg room of the Maxima. I mean, I'm 6'2", but sitting in the backseat of that thing after adjusting the front seat for myself, it was just PAINFUL....prob. as bad as the back seat of a 1.5 cab pickup. Whereas I consider the Maxima to be pretty roomy back there. So, if you drive your tall (or even short) friends around a lot, they will not be happy in the backseat of that thing.

I get the feeling this isn't what you wanted to hear, but it's the facts.

I say dump the green machine. The only bad thing I hear bout the S4 is one of the turbos have a tendency to blow and they usually run 10K more than an A4. If you really like that body then I say get the A4 and upgrade the turbo. You will save a ton of $ in insurance w/ the A4 as well. My wife has an A4 and I like it alot.

The backseat is smaller so if you have kids or blah blah blah. I dont have anyone ever ride in my back seat so im buying my next car for me, not others leg room.....

have you looked into imprezzas?

i hate the 1.8T. i want the BITurbo V6. i am aware of all their problems like i said two of my friends own S4's. see i love the fast i can buy an S4. spend $600 get it chipped and it goes from running mid to low 14's to mid 13's while still retaining comfort and drivability. anyway i am going to list the max and see how many calls i get on it. like i said i don't need a new car and i am in no great hurry but i want something nicer. plus i think $18K to $22k is not bad for such an all round car as an S4

If you have the money for it, go for it. But you should know how expensive they are to fix. Its a very sweet ride though.

I second that. I drove a A4 for a while. Not a S4 but they share alot of the same components. Very good car when it's not dying on you. Horrible electricals....I wish I could think of a word that can sound worse. It's just bad. Oh so expensive to fix. Dealers will kill you....it was 2500 for the 80k mile service alone. 500 bucks just for ONE link, of the Multi link suspension. Don't think you can work on a Audi like you can a max. It's a whole different beast. Most foreign auto shops can't even touch the car because their diags won't read the computers in an Audi...there's like 4-5 of them. You would think VW shops would work on them because it's essentially the same thing...but they won't...one VW machanic actually told me "he was scared" to touch it. And when it starts to break on you...everything breaks. Spending 5k-6k a yr just on upkeep is not unheard of. I was almost happy when that delivery truck plowed into me on 95. Totaled the car...but not a scratch on me. Those cars are bricks. Destroyed everything around the car..no more trunk...knocked the front in about 2 feet....but the passenger cabin was intact. Ok I'm done...just heed my warning....You will pay....alot.

Those cars arent that great, just wait till I take the pic of there Jigantic production assembley line here in China, Dood VW's and BMWS are made IN CHINA, I wouldnt trust Chinese engineering If I were you, cause after living here for a little more then 3 months, you like see how much better everything else is enginered. Trust me, dont fall in with the incrowd, be your own person and keep your maxima, drop in a turbo in there and eat them alive!!!

Far as i knew...Audi's were still made in Germany...at least mine was. And most VW's coming to the US are built at their plants in Mexico. All the engineering is done in Germany...assembly is spread out for cheap labor. Still don't matter i guess..My German engineered, German assembled car still broke down way too much for me. Can't justify the maintenence bills.

Some of the 3-series and two 5-series are made in china.

Some of the A4s and A6s are also made in china.

I dont know if you'll be able to find an S4 between $18-22K, if so pretty much all of us on here can afford that, You were acting like you are going out and buying a brand new one. I didnt know you were talkin about an old beat to hell S4. and why do you hate the 1.8T? and what about WRX's/STI's....

I hardly consider a 2001 S4 old..or beat to hell. The majority of the S4's that I've seen were driven by older people that can afford it. Not many people in their 20's can afford a 50k car without some drastic cutbacks on their living conditions. Not saying people of the older generation cannot drive...but in no way do they drive their cars as hard and consistantly as..lets say a kid in his early 20's. From my experience....german cars are more than capable of handling abuse...found them to be very durable. The only reason I would not consider another, is the sky high maintenence bills to keep it in good condition. Any car will break if you abuse it...but there is a huge diff in cost when it comes to upkeeping a japanese import vs an Audi.

As for the 1.8t's..I personally think they are great engines. I just do not like 4 cylinders.

So, stop playing catch up and annihilate them. That old S4 was nice a few years ago, but it's nothing to write home about now. I'd save up your money or take your big bank account and buy a real car - one that will smack the crap out of all of your friends and brother. Think corvette and up. You could even keep the max as a daily driver and buy something really irresponsible just to say you own it, like a used lotus/porsche/well-worn viper, etc.

$40k will put you behind the wheel of a viper. You'll never in your life own a car so nice, so why not now, when you can afford it? Once you get hitched and you're paying for day care you can forget about owning anything nice, so do it now. You'll look back fondly in 15 years at the car you had, while you sit there with your big beer belly watching reality tv and the kids are clambering over you.

thanks for the Advice guys... i am aware of all the short commings of the S4 like i said two of my friends own them. they had had their share of headaches but on the highway its a diffrent animal. soild and stable and boost is almost instant. well i put my max in the want add so it should be in next weeks edition. if it sells for what i want i will start looking for an S4 but if it doesn't i can just keep it like SkoorbMax suggested although no viper or corvette for me. i have a diffrent perspective when it comes to the max, its areally good car but most of the money i spend on it i think i waste. i would never turbocharge it or supercharge it. its just not worth spending $4000 on a car that is worth $8000. i would rather just sell it and buy something better.

Buying a Viper in New England means you need another car for 5 months out of the year.

a week ago u were saying the 4th gen is god's gift to nissan or some BS. what happened now? finally realized the car is a POS and you wanna be just like your friends w/ the "me too" cars? if they all drive civics are you going to get one too?

why not try and be orig and get something different. if your bank roll can handle it why not a M3?
wait..you need AWD?....WRX? WRX-STI?
need euro? R32?

do they even make a high pressure radiator cap for the S4?

4th gen wasn't god's gift to nissan. i just know it was better than the thurd gen maximas. that's why you banned me for a day remember. Not because my taste has began to mature means i wanna be like my friends with "me too" cars. i like the S4 and wanted some opinions on weather it would be a good idea to sell my max and get one. WRX is a god awful ugly thing and i don't care how fast it is you would never get me to drive one. An STI and R32 are out of my price range above $30000. i can find a nice S4 anywhere from $17,000 to $22,000 and some still have factory warranty. thanks for all the imput hopefully some bites on my max if not i will just keep it drive until i find a sale for it.

Also my maxima is not a POS alot of the mods on here talk smack but never back it up lets see your car, since my car is a POS.

I am sure they do make high pressure radiator caps for the S4 and you can bet i will buy one if they do.

You can get a R32 for ~26k. Which is <30 as you stated.

I thought of an S4, but for ~20k you can have a much more reliable/faster car, it's all up to you adn what exactly you want.

From what you have posted, it seems as if you are wanting to get a "me too" car.

What if you buy a new car and then all of your friends buy maximas? Will you be getting another one?

You're what's about the whole "me too" car thing...you said you wanted a new car because your friends have nicer cars. That's a pretty shallow reason to drop $25k on a car, especially if the one you have is still in very good condition.

Did you expect people to just come and ride your sack saying "OmGhI2U!!1 GeT tHe S4 iTs SuCh A sXy CaR" or did you want honest feedback?

Honest feedback: a lightly-modded '99 maxima is a nice car. Keep the money for when you need it. You don't need another car right now.

What you want to hear: your car has 110,000 miles and is a '99. Your friends all have better cars than you. You need another car right now!

Pick whichever you wanted to hear, and that's my advice.

What is that abomination on your dash? That's reason enough right there to take my 2nd piece of advice and get a new car.
