i think the problem is that the "new guages" might be sticking to the needle.
you'll need to remove the round black piece that fits over the needle, it come off with little to no effort. you should not remove the needle itself.
the little black piece comes off without disturbing or damaging anything.
once its off file down the back a little, and then replace, it needles should be moving freely.
replace everything and you done.
