Today my Grandfather told me how a friend from work has a son who is a contractor for Nissan's Canton, MS and Smyrna, TN plants heard that Nissan plans to basically 1-up all of their sedans come time to make it's next generation of (insert car here). In other words, the Sentra will replace the Altima's place in the market, the Altima will replace the Maxima's place in the market (to compete with Toyota's Camry and the like) and the Maxima will be made to compete with Lexus' luxury sedans, which most of us can guess... RWD V8.

Just thought I'd share what I heard from someone who might know what the future holds, but it isn't much that we could all gather from sales figures of the Altima and Camry (neck and neck I'd say) and what we have seen the 6th gen. Maxima become.

They started that in 2000 with the Sentra, then took the next step in '02 with the VQ35 Altima.

I would like to applaude the senior members and how they proudly represent a great community such as this with smart *** remarks and other friendly words.

As stated in my original post, it is obvious this is already apparent, but for the Altima to become a little more sporty, and the Maxima to become a luxury yacht, is somewhat news to me. I have seen various threads on speculation but I do not remember anything coming from someone close to Nissan.

 

Your grandfather's friend from work's son is a reputable source? My sister's ex-boyfriend's uncle's only nephew's ex-girlfriend's brother says that Nissan is planning to enable the Maxima to fly for the 14th generation, due sometime around 2026.

 

I feel you, dude! There have been too many sacastic remarks from the so called "senior" members recently. Most of the time they are frustrated by new members not reading the FAQ first. But some just are plain mockery! A word of advice, make sure you do some researches prior posting/sharing your info. Then you will be prepared to challenge their sarcastic remarks with concrete proof. Easier said than done...just don't get discourage by it.

BTW, thanks for the info. I suspect the change w/Nissan model lines would happen sooner or later.

 

I wanna see that happen? And when was this? 2000 right have we seen any changes since besides the 3.5 v6 altima?I doubt it and call it BS for now at least.

 

Either way, if the Max does become a RWD V8, you can bet the price is going to go way up.

 

well seeing as he was saying it would try to push its way into the luxury sedan market, I would anticipate the price going up for that alone.

I would be surprised if Nissan did change the platform that drastically. Instead I would expect them to just discontinue it and start a new model.

 

We're just playing around. Most of us "senior" members realize its just the internet and dont take anything personal. Besides most of the time we are just playing around.

Started in 2000 with the Sentra.. it was the same size as the altima back then-- until they unveiled the 2002 Altima with the 2.5 and 3.5 options... then the Altima is now where the Max was in 2002. the Maxima is getting bigger and squishier every year since 2000. I drove an '03 last week at the track and it feels like I was driving a La-Z-Boy compared to my 3rd gen. NO feel in the pedals, steering, seat, nothing. yuck....

but that's what old men who are currently buying Cadillacs want... And that's what Nissan is going to give them in '06.

All I have to say is if nissan goes this route then they will lose me in the future cause Im not driving an ALTIMA. Forget that bull-crap, just cant see it and Im not going to a Luxury car cause im in to sport.

That would suck if the Maxima is pushed into a luxury/yacht car. I hope they push it as a luxury sport car head in head with the BMW M5

 

Sad part is...they sort of already did. Not saying it's a bad thing....but it's the biggest maxima to date, and it pretty plush. As for going head to head with an M5....that's not gonna happen.....your talking about market where the 3 cars in it push 450+hp and are in the $60-80k range. It'd be wiser to push a "tuned" Infiniti M45 into that niche than the Maxima...which is 30-38k car.

Because if I passed up the price I would have been a moron. What I paid for my max is about 3 grand less then what it booked for.

Also currently I have about 4 cars so thats why I havent purchased a new max (not a need to) and to me the latest model isnt always the best. At first I didnt like the 5th gens but now they are growing on me, Wish I could say the same about the 6th gens cause they are too wide and dont have a sporty/sleek look to them. They remind me of a fat avalon.

Besides trying to predict what I buy is dumb cause not everyone goes out and buys a new car because its new I purchase on need when it comes to cars.

I just put down my deposit on my 07 Nissan Luxima.


RWD blah blah blah, why would they canabalize on the G35 and M45 market with a V8 RWD Nissan that will be similarly priced. It looks more apparent to me that they are gonna discontinue the Maxima all together. It seems the Altima is doing quite well, and while I was at the dealership getting my Maxima, I sat in an Altima and was pretty impressed at the space inside. Making the Altima the way they did (with the VQ35, and basically all options a Maxima has) puts the Maxima in an awkward spot. The overweight, pimply faced, Magic Card playing brother Maxima compared to the athletic, popular, prom queen banging brother Altima.

The Bottom line is if they push an RWD V8 Maxima into the market, it would probably carry a 33k BASE price, no options, so for a loaded 40K car, there are many more options I'd take over a Luxima, I mean Maxima.

 

He's not new, he's been around 13months. It'd make sense if he was new, but it doesn't make any sense since he's been here since *last* october.

 

hahah, there have been so many of these threads in the past couple months, I wonder why, Well lets just say what if all this wasnt true and they bring back a special 4th gen edition with a super mixture of all the best parts from the vq series and drop in a g35x tranny, and price it for around lets say 35k, then they could have a special edition super boat(YUK)

Its nothing new. The 6th gen Maxima is already in a different class, bigger and more luxurious. The 3.5 Altima is now the flagship for Nissan. Historically the Maxima has been the flagship, but not anymore, Nissan shifted their marketing plan.
