On the other hand, every time i try to use cruise control in boston metro traffic it frustrates me to no end and is more work than no cruise - so i lost a pound there.

As far as the mat under the dash - do you mean the one on the floor/firewall (footwell) - or is it up top under the dash cover? I havent yet had the whole dash apart but thinking about it - i did manage to take out some of the easier brackets/glovebox weight etc. already. The footwell pad seems pretty hard to fully access, though i have removed the lower half of it.
that rubber pad you have to take the dash out and some things behind the dash to get it out its one piece and iam betting its over 20lbs

You can also cut off the beams in the doors for side impact and you can also drill out bolts and screws and make them hollow. Also take out the window regulators for the back doors. I would also take off all the mud guards under the car even if it's just plastic.

This is a horrible idea. Comprimising safety is the worst way to save weight.

i agree with broaner and also . if you read the previous posts i made you see where i say REAL WR isnt just ripping stuff off and throwing it away.

anybody can do that WR , thats the kind that destroys the car . iam not in to that .

make a max weigh 2500 lbs with all the crash safety (actually better) full interior all working windows,ac and PS. can you do that? if you can your a weight reduction master. my car is getting very close.
if i gutted a maxima i could get it in the 2200lb range but id rather not do that.

Did you take out the steel bumper reinforcements and replace them with the 97 and up aluminum parts? Or just take them out all together... also like stated somewhere else... get some light weight rotors.. I saw somwhere on here theres a metal plate that you can remove thats in the passenger compartment...

Good luck

replace Aftermarket y-pipe
replace Aftermarket Cat-back
Removed Plate Under Steering Wheel.
Removed Support bar behind glove box.
Removed Plate behind back seat
Sound deadening under hood.
Most sound deadening tar on floor (dry ice - it works!)
Floor mats
Miscellaneous bolts due to removing things.
Stock Fog lights
LW battery
2 exhaust heat shields
2 tow hooks
Replaced f&r bumper supports with '95 aluminum ones
Power antenna
All non-essential hoses air boxes and other things Removed from engine
Owners Manual
Jack
Metal piece that holds jack
Spare Tire
All trunk carpet & trim
Crusie Control
Rear wing
Complete sound system removed
rear speaker cardboard (will replace with fabric)
light rims in front (13.5 lbs +tire each)

Goal is probably low 2700s, will take me while from here though. Car has lost near 200 lbs and it feels great to drive like this. You can notice the difference in accel, handling and braking.

Anyone actually convert their power moonroof to a manual pop-up with lexan? that'd probalby save me 25 lbs up top.

Also looking to get a matching set of light rims for the rear, and possibly replace the front seats with something a bit lighter. No more redux for a while though, got to get some kind of tune on my 00vi first.

yay more stuff to do this summer.

hey tom-
what kind of LW battery did you get?
and the power antenna... if you remove it there's a hole there next to the trunk? so what did you do?
and no cruise or sound system.... so you're okay w/o those amenities?
i feel like for a daily driver, i gotta at least have radio/cd/ipod hookup to listen to. i can't imagine a car w/o one.
and what are the "All non-essential hoses air boxes and other things Removed from engine"?

do you happen to have a pic of this rubber pad? or a more descriptive explaination of its location/purpose? i'm betting taking the dash out is no easy task.

I use a $24 tractor battery, the largest one walmart sells. it started my car fine at subzero temps a few times this year too. Just don't leave parking lights on when pumping gas, there's very little reserve. The antenna I just replaced with a bolt and nut (kept the small plastic thing on the outside of the car). As for sound system, my kenwood died over a year ago, found myself not minding at all for my daily commute - in fact i prefer to drive without distractions. If i did get one I'd look for a lighter weight solution. Same with cruise - for the way i use my car it just doesnt work except maybe i get to use it like once a year or something. The non-essential air boxes are the airbox and the resonator box under the battery, and the scoop.

I miss my baby, but it's all for the better.

Broaner I see you have your own personal road coarse in that video there lol. I assume when the car's ready for the real road course you will provide some indepth coverage such as pre race setups with results. Also if you can get the car weighed with the the roll cage done would be great.

TomV you got any pictures of the ride as it sits now?
