Paint Question?

When getting a paint job done on the car how many coats of paint is normally used ans well as how many clear coats.

Reason I am asking is because I have to get the car repainted and I wanted to know the norm so I can talk to the paint guys.

they will know themselves when talin to them. I belive it is a few coats of paint like 3 or 4 and at least 2 of clear coat.
I would hope that a paint shop would know though

It all depends on color and coverage. Could be 2 coats of base color or it could be as many as 4 coats of base color to get good coverage. To many variables to predict that. You put down as many as required to achieve uniform complete coverage prior to the next step.

Your pearl color is a three stage process. Base, Pearl and then clear. The base coat needs to cover evenly. The pearl is where the color match really happens. The number of coats of pearl is what matches the pearl finish of your cars color. You start with 2 then maybe 1,2 or even 3 more in some cases to make the pearl match. Pearl is not easy to match because there are 3 stages that all work together to make the finish.

Clear coat is usually always 2 coats.

P.S. Don't talk to the paint guys, just let them do their job.
