Broken axle and a clutch question
My Max started leaking fluid, then a few days later suddenly there was no power to the wheels. It got towed to a shop, and from the leakage they thought the main trani seal was out, requiring a clutch replacement. I wanted an ACT clutch, since it's the only one about which I've heard nothing negative from vendors (compared to Centerforce, Clutchmaster etc). Well, as luck would have it, the factory is backordered 2+ weeks on pressure plates and nobody in California had one in stock, so I ordered a Jim Wolf clutch, which has similar specs to the ACT. Now, here's what's happening. Turns out the problem was a broken axle at the spline! The shop ordered a new axle, and it should be done by Friday. Doing the Redline MT90 as long as it needs new fluids. However ... since the clutch wasn't damaged, I don't need a replacement ASAP. I have 2 choices. I can keep the Jim Wolf clutch, which won't get put in until I get the Quaife differential later this year, or I can return it and get the ACT that I wanted. I don't know anything about the JWT clutch quality or performance. Is it worth keeping, or go with the known quality item?
