Whats up fellows. I'll soon be purchasing a 4th gen 5 speed within the month. The 3.5 swap is a good one. I've been doing some research on VQ technology, and its amazing. My 4g63 is old school. I have a list of vq engines, and need help on which one is the best. VQ power

2 VQ30DD

3 VQ30DE

4 VQ30DET

5 VQ35DE

6 VQ40DE

They are all V6's and they should bolt write up.

3, 4 & 5 would be top choice, can't go wrong w/ a VQ30DE(K) or VQ35DE

6 has yet to be reviewed since it just came out

here is a review on the VQ40DE:
Thankfully, Nissan didn’t neglect the engine on the new model, featuring an all-new tall-block version of the VQ-series V-6. With a nearly 10mm increase in stroke over the VQ35, the still-oversquare VQ40DE cranks out a V-8-like 270 horsepower at 5,600 rpm, and 291 lbs./ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm. The only transmission available with the Pathfinder is a version of the Titan and Armada’s 5-speed automatic. Fuel economy figures are the same as the ’04 model, at 15/21 city/highway for the 4x4 model, and 16/23 for the two-wheel-drive version.

if you go FI, then 4 is the way to go. If you want raw N/A power then go with the VQ35DE

you suck at that polls thing. ;p they are all equally good. difference is how much stock power you want from an engine.

There really is no best overall VQ. It all depends on your application.

Sorry about the poll. I'm new to this. but it seems to me that the vq40de would have the best potential for N/A power.

With all due respect, probably whichever motor comes with the car is the best from a reliability standpoint. The 30 is pretty good because it was put into so many vehicles. Short of all those things which caused motor oil leaks (really the parts not the motor itself) there's really nothing wrong with it.

Since this is a Maxima forum, do you guys realize the reason for the V6 is FWD? V6 is not as good as I6 or V8 from a physics point of view, so any of those VQ's would be hard-pressed to compete against an I6 or V8. That's an achilles heel for the new Acura RL. It has to do with primary and secondary balance. Just look at Lexus, the FWD Camry-based car gets a V6. The IS300 gets an I6. The I6 wont fit in a FWD in most cases.
