Broken Jack

I went to crank the front end of the car up tonight and the floor jack just keeping sinking right back down. It would go up and inch and then back down. I could get it to go up until it touched the car, but then it would sink right back down after one crank. It worked fine last time I used it a few days ago, it didn't sink down at all. Now it wont work, whats wrong with it? Thats another disadvantage to being lowered, I can't do anything to the car without a jack under it.

Check the level of hydraulic fluid in the jack.

yep it is closed. The jack has been slowly sinking for few years, now all of a sudden it doesn't work.

Same is happening to me. My brand new Craftsman broke when I was wheeling the fat auto tranny around to the back of my house. Guess I gotta go deal with Sears.

Check the hydraulic fluid first, like others have said. They gradually lose oil and will stop pumping once the level gets too low.
