As long as you dont keep spraying you will be fine. Talk to Don in Texas about how much wear and tear. He was a NOS fan and tore his engine more times then we can imagine.

why do you want it?

For the track go ahead.

For the street its not that fun (1500.00 waste of money). Its more expensive than it appears(to tune it properly. Bottle heater, guage, rpm switch etc.) When it is cold you, you get barely any gain(without bottle heater). After two weeks you will be bored of it. You car is still slow when not on the bottle and your daily commute is not much faster. In addition your little brother might steal your bottle to do whip-its.

Also, if you get rear ended, you could die.

Hey, everyone has their own opinions and i respect your opinion on this. Im not trying to flame but clarify this somewhat for the people who may be interested.(Damn i sound like a infomercial.

It will never cost $1500 or ever $1000 for NOS to be in your car. It hasnt costed me that at least and i'm in full working order. You can go and buy a bottle blanket for $30 and keep it warm for the chilly days. The whole car will be warmed up by then anyways. It still works and gives plenty of gains. I sure your no one's little brother would steal it and inhale. If inhaled, it can kill you. It's not the same as the one's people like to inhale for whip-its. Automotive NOS is mixed with somekind of sulfuric acid. It is poisonous. Yes it is true that you can die if you carry it around in your trunk. I mainly use it for the track. I dont need to race on the street. I sure as the hell dont need any trouble.

Re: why do you want it?

Do you mean you can die from all the nitrous inside the passenger cabin if you get rear ended? Or do you mean it could explode?

Anyway, I have a racer's blow off valve and a vent tube to the outside of the car.

First of all whip its used in moderation are just great! You have to be an idiot to die from inhaling it.

Second of all the NOS bottle is DOT approved. A friend and I were doing whipits and other party favors. My friend wigged out and through the nitrous bottle into the street. It hit the cement hard, the bottle was scuffed but did not crack. If you get rearended hard enough to blow the bottle you are dead any way.

no flames - but a different opinion.

it's alot more fun on the street than on the track because of all the people you can surprise. where'd you get the figure $1500? a basic kit is $400, add a heater $100, add a gauge $30, add a window switch $50.. hm, i'll even throw in some colder plugs AND a fuel pump - that's what, $700? to tune properly - now this is the really expensive part because you have to buy a $4 jet to tune it. it's been more than a year and i'm not bored. after two weeks, you'll begin to see how many people you can beat. a maxima off the bottle isn't SLOW - half the time i race off the bottle. if you get rear ended, the worst that could happen is you kill the idiot that rear ended you because the valve is towards the front of the car - causing the bottle to shoot towards the rear. this is IF you were rear ended that hard.

Sx7r,
Guess what I found out this weekend. The MSD window switch doesn't work on maxima right outta the box. It has to be modify as a 1 cylinder application since Maxima has 6 individual coils. Cost ~$35 extra. My window switch is in the mail to MSD. Where did you tap the white wire for the Tach reading on the MSD window switch? Is it the black wire from the any of the coils?

1MAX2NV:
Can you email or post the information regarding the MSD switch. I ordered this along with 2 packs of the RPM chips (3000 and 6000). I am going to install the NOS in a few weeks and would like to have the switch installed before I use the gas. Thanks.

What info do you need? SXr7 probably knows more about the subject than I do. I just figured out it doesn't work on the maxima right out of the box. It's made for cars with a coil. You need to sent it to MSD/autotronic controls corp. 12120 esther Lama, suite 114, El Paso, TX 79936. Include a note tell them to modify it for 1 cylinder application, and tell them it's for a Maxima. It will cost $35 and they will COD the charge.

i actually use the NOS window switch, not the MSD switch. however, when you get your switch back, it should tap into the same wire as any other window switch. personally, i thought tapping the tach wire at the ECU wiring harness was the easiest thing to do. there's also a screw behind the gauge cluster that you can screw the wire into and get a reading off of that. you could also directly tap one of the wires on a coil - i don't remember the color of the wire, but there are only 3 to choose from. i know this works because one of my friends tried that.

I was just wondering if anybody already had installed the MSD RPM activated window switch and had explict installation instructions...

window switch/RPM chips...

what are these? I would love to get NOS, but with the VG auto transmission, I know I'm just asking for trouble. Looks like I am staying slow until I get a new car.

I am also looking into getting NOS for my car if my compression is ok, which it should be, 95k miles aint THAT bad. What kinda guages do u have on your pillar and where can i get some, also i am confused on how the NOS knows to engage at 3k and stop at 6k? Is there a certain chip i need for this? or S-AFC or something like that. Could you give me a good place online of where i can get all these NOS accessories.

You can get the NOS from JC Whitney for $375 shipped. If you plan on running anything higher then a 50 shot, i would sugguest getting a fuel pressure gauge. I would def get teh a/f gauge & NOS pressure gauge. You can get it from any local performance store.

Hey, talk to your buddy Jeff (w/GTI) about Van Iderstines by us.

A normal switch is what activates the NOS. A window switch is what turns the NOS on and off at the rpms. This is what controls when the NOS turns on at 3k rpm and shuts off at 6k rpm. Chekc out nopi or summit racing. Also, try lightning motorsports.

i have Air/Fuel, Fuel Pressure, and Exhaust Temp gauges on my pillar. as synki said, the window switch turns the nitrous on and off at desired rpms. since you have a 95 max, Jim Wolf makes a nitrous ECU for your car. i got all some of my gauges at carparts.com. sometimes they have their 33% off coupon and it'd be cheaper getting it from them.
