4th. Gen Maxima or 97-98 240SX
Which of these beautiful cars would you rather have? Both being in their stock configuration but also think about their potential.

They are totally different ends of the spectrum. The 240 is born a RWD sports car... while the Maxima begins as a FWD family car..........
I'd take the 240 in a heart beat, the aftermarket and potential is amazing.

Being a former 240SX owner myself. it depends from your info it shows you live in Ny so i could recommend the Maxima. The 240 is VERY slow in stock form both auto and standard. Also being as you may do alot of city driving you will enjoy the maxima's extra grunt alot more. Unless your going to turbo chrage the 240 or do a sr20 swap get the maxima. Also the 240 is horrid in the snow.....so these are some things to think about
and you'll see some side ways potential and maybe turbo potential

Thats the stock front end for a 97-98 240sx
BTW I agree with erty, I'd get the max, then if possible a 240 as a project/toy.

I still miss my 97SE and I'm driving a loaded 02 6spd with Nav. I bought my 97 new and sold it two years ago because I have kids and I needed something bigger. They are light, handle great and have unlimited potential. The 97-98 240s are rare cars and most people have no idea what what they are when they see one.

The KA24DE is what it is.. a truck motor. The KA's were a solid motor mainly found in the hardbody pick-up, they only had 150 horses at the crank, but had a decent amount of low end torque. The KA has alot of potential if you planning on building it and adding a turbo.
And although the last generation of the 240SX's sold in the US are hands down the best looking, I would still take the 89-94 240 because it weighs a hell of a lot less.

I don't think he was saying that the VQ is the fastest engine. I think he was saying it in that it's a very good, reliable, and strong engine. Which is shown by how long they last, how much people are pushing with turbos and NOS and what not. But if that wasn't what he was saying then I take my post back.

240 or maxima is a hard choice, you can choose to mod a car that mostly has been a sponsered car, so to not have it modded to a high standard (tubo, coilover, custom paint,etc) makes you want to drop more money in it to bring it demo car standard. A 4th gen maxima is a car not many big time sponsors have taken up and most of the maxs I see here on the org look way better than the Fast and Furious maxima they made. When I see people around here with 240s I think of the demo cars I've seen and think the owner should do better, when I think maxima, I think of how I can make mine look better than it does now and a car not many people other than orgers give a chance.

ive got 4 kids a 3 wifes (1 woman and 2 maximas) ..... that said, i still want a 240 to dump some money into.
go for the 240 sx and get the right mods and you will be happy. with the proper rods, pistons, rod bearings a Turbo KA can be fun as long as you keep the boost reasonable.
if you can afford it get both. i had a Volvo 240 as my first car and it was an "interesting" drive in the winter being RWD.

Both are great cars, I have a 240 my friend has a maxima. Maxima overall has more power from the get go.
Yes its rwd and doesn't like snow much but some good tires and weight to rear if needed sand bag. Get both 240-spring,summer maxima fall/winter..I have to say the aftermarket for the 240 is endless..

that is exactly what i did on the Volvo, two 40lb sand bags in the trunk and some snow tires. thats why i said interesting as apposed to diffucult.

Well, it does snow quite a bit up here, and I'd have to say that both my Maxima and my buddy's S13 aren't all that great in the snow.
That said, front drive is generally better in the winter for a novice, experienced hands with any type of drive shouldn't have too much trouble with the fluffy white stuff.
Anyway, back to the point:
S14 240sx: Dead sexy, crazy fun (even if it sounds and feels faster than it actually is), expensive to make fast, and not all that practical.
Maxima: Sexy, faster than it looks or sounds, cheap to make faster, you can get it on in the backseat, and a decent amount of trunkspace.
...I'd get a Max.
BTW, KA24's effin' rule. I kick myself occasionally for having sold my Stanza.
That said, front drive is generally better in the winter for a novice, experienced hands with any type of drive shouldn't have too much trouble with the fluffy white stuff.

And yeah, 13's are fast, but I'd say that anything under 15 is still fast compared to most of the cars on the road.

well, conserdering i almost bought a 96 240,but i bought a 95 maxima , id say enemeneminemo...no, but they both can be modded very much. i just happen to like 4 doors instead of two, but the 240 is a sweet rwd car.

Yeah, definitely depends on what you use the car for, if you need to haul around people, then go for the Max, but if you're looking for something to build up, go with the 240. I had the same debate, but in the end I ended up with the max becaue I needed the extra space that the 240 didn't have...
But once i get out of college I'm getting a 240 and throwing in a rb25det and be running low 13's-high 12's at the track
