Is this alright? re:Caliper Clearance
I got 300zx calipers and Dave Sz and I had trouble with the clearance. The volks were rubbing against the calipers. After trips to several different auto stores, we tried pick up some spacers. The problem with those was that there were no threads for the lugs to catch. to fix the problem, we decided to grind the calipers (iron) to be able to gain a couple more mm of clearance. It still was not enough so we let it sit overnight. Today, I called every tuner shop in the chicago area to try and get a hold of some H&R 5mm Spacers. No Go. We came up with the idea to put washers on to get the clearance. It gave just enough. The mounting surface is close to the contact that it had regularly (top pic). It seems that there is nothing wrong with the alignment or with how the car drives. there is no more tire noise than there was before.
I do have to say that the zx brakes seem way more responsive. They are currently on oem pads and rotors until I take care of some boosted toys. I also upgraded all the lines to ss.
