LEDs in Window Switches install
I was following the instructions from maximadriver.com
http://web.csuchico.edu/%7Eggross/LED.html
And the they work great for the front doors, but of course, the back ones dont work becasue the LED setup is really wierd in my 98 max. I'll explain... See in these pictures,

Ive circled the LED, as you can see, there are 4 leads comming from the LED. Now, look at the center of the LED and you will see 2 dark spots, those are the actual lights. And if you touch the 2 leads on the right side together, the top light will go off, and if you touch the right side leads, the bottom light will go out... Now, ive asked around local electronic stores, they dont carry that type of LED, nor have they ever SEEN it before. Has anyone ever goten around this problem? The stock green lights are fading and looking very ugly... I would apriciate ANY help.
Thanks in advance!

forgot
i almost forgot, and on the bottom of the board it this.

Its some type of processor, thats why its so hard to get to.
Two of the leads are above it, the other two go under the board into the processor.

it has to be one of these... i blew out my volt/ohm meter so i cant find the exact value..

im trying to change the ones on my 2k1 driver side one to blue.. i think that your rear door led with 4 pins are the same ones on my driver side doors.. tell me what you find out if you get these..
It looks to be the one in figure 6, but I can't be sure. . . Even if it is, I would assume that you have Ultra Bright Green in it already, and the only thing that would be comparable would be the Red. This is just from looking at the board posted above, but i can't be sure.
I belive they are the gull wing leads, pretty sure at leaste. I'll check it out later. and i'll measure the volts. I guess it would be pretty easy to contact Panasonic and get these, but the problem is soldering them on now, small working space. Thanks for the info!
I am not wondering if the ones in the car aren;t bicolor and only 2 of them are connected, I may be really wrong about this though. . . The reason why I am thinking this is it seems like all the ones with 4 leads are bi-color. Unless all 4 are hooked up to make it brighter. . .
If it is anything it would have to be Fig. 6, 7, 8, or 11 as those are the only ones with 4 leads. . .

ok ok ok
Those are "surface mount" LEDs. They are called that because they mount on the surface of the PCB...duh. They dont have leads that go down through holes in the board. You can change these out. My friend did just that to change the display color on his CD player.
You need to find an electronics supplier that can get them for you. You specify which ones you want by:
color
size (length width height in millimeters)
voltage
Technically you dont need any special tools to change them, just a really steady hand. There are specialt ools that make the whole process much easier though...tiny soldering irons and such.
