he was slowing down to take the exit traffic was building up on the exit to he was doing around 10 mph to squeeze into a spot, and then the suv went around a car not noticing that my buddy was pratically standing still and bang rear ended him.

Oh, and about those Civic picks. If they didn't look so real, I'd almost say they were photoshopped, only because I CANNOT imagine how a guardrail could just go right through a car like that. That is truly unbelievable. I mean, the thing sheared right through the ENTIRE car like a knife through butter. Incredible....

I wrecked my eclipse I-680. I was between pleasanton and fremont. I was going up a hill and around a curve at the same time. I looked over my shoulder to change lanes, but when I did, I didn't realizr that my car was going straight instead of with the curve. When I looked back, I saw a cement center divide. I tried to swerve, but I didn't have time. All I remember was spinning out up the hill for about 300 feet. I remember thinking, "Oh my God, I am going to die. God, watch over my family." It was the longest thirty seconds of my life. I closed my eyes and the next thing I remember, I was alive. In my car, sitting in the shoulder of the slow lane, facing traffic. I unlatched my seat belt and got out of my car just before it started to roll back down the hill. It would be about 10 minutes before help came. When the paramedics responded, they asked me if the eclispe at the bottom of the hill was my car. I said yeah it was and they said that I was lucky to be alive, because they responded to an accident two weeks before mine that wasn't as bad as mine, and both of the people in the car died. I made it through with a sprained ankle, and some scratches on my face and my eye from the airbag. When I saw my car, I was speechless. The front end was two feet shorter, the bumper was ripped of. Everything in the cab was broken. The entire body of the car was thrashed. this is the reason why I have a maxima by the way, because I totalled my eclipse.

Yeah the civic thing is pretty amazing.

Speaking of street racing, some guys racing drove me off the road while I was doing ~70 mph about two and a half years ago. I was barely 16 and it was my first time ever driving alone. The Talon hit my car on the driver side. It was not a direct impact more of a solid push/scrapping but enough to drive me off the road. Flipped a few times and ended real close to some trees. I was more of a spectator since the real crash happened after I was out. The passenger of the first car (early 90's civic) was ejected through the front windshield and died instantly. The driver was pulled out ofthe car but died at the hospital. The other car was an older Talon with three people in the car. The passenger survived without too much damage. The driver's girlfriend was killed (still not sure how to this day, but her blood was all over) and when I woke up they were pulling the driver out of the car. He screamed for like 5 minutes straight.

Not exactly the kind of thing you want to happen on your first drive alone.

Well there was an original thread about it which I made, some member found the article on it. It took place in flordia, it was a street race between him and an integra, he lost control hitting it. Till this day I still think its fake but if it is awsome photo shop work!, If its true well that sucks then doesnt it.

Haven't posted in awhile but heres mine. Story is simple. I'm on the highway, when there is road construction causing all the cars to either slow down or come to a complete stop. Well, I guess the guy behind me didn't realize that every car was stopping and plowed right into me. Pushed me into the car in front of me, and gave me a splitting headache.
Moral is... watch out for idiots who don't pay attention.

Man, thats just crazy! you are lucky to still be here to tell the story. it's amazing what we can live through... the max took a beating, but it did it's job... it kept you alive.

still crazy though... how did someone find you? and how did they get a helicopter out to you in the woods?

After seeing deckdout2 maxima completely wrecked, my heart just sank. The whole car shifted, the dash moved its pretty amazing you made it out of there with those injuries better than having a broken back with severe neck injuries and broken legs. Congrats on your new car. Much better/safer than a 97. Good luck with it.

I consider myself to be very lucky. I was running on pure adrenaline.

My best friend was directly behind me, and had to slam on brakes to keep from hitting me in the back when the car came back around.
The ambulance still had to come and drive me down the road to a big High School parking lot. Luckly it wasn't too deep in the country.

I sure hope so, even though it's been a couple of years, I still sit behind the wheel and can't help but think about it, and lift my foot of the accelerator. Too many memories, hope it doesn't force me to sell the new Max.

I need advice....My sister was in an accident the other day in her 2002 Civic. She was rear-ended and once she was hit, it caused her to hit the car in front of her. She just heard back from the dealership where her car was being inspected to see if it can be saved or considered a loss. They said it sustained $11k in damage and it will be fixable but she doesn't know if she should have it fixed, or just take the money and get a new car.... what do you guys think??? I'll have pics of the damage up in a few..

I think this should be on a thread by itself, that's what I think...

But besides that... it's up to the insurance company and the value of the car. Most insurance companies wouldn't pay $11k in damages unless the car was worth substantially more, but they all have different cut-offs where they would pay vs. total the car. If the car is worth $30k today then they might pay to have it fixed... if it's worth $19k, then that's another story...

But depending on the damage, if given a choice, she might wanna choose to total it and get a new car rather than an old car with an extensive amount of repairs. Plus there's always the possibility that something wouldn't get fixed properly, that the paint would not match 100%, etc.

Total Damage: $3235

Basically, it was around 2:30 in the morning. I was in my bedroom 1/2 sleep and I started hearing a car alarm. I was thinking it was mine, but I dismissed it. At around 7:00 in the morning, my neighbor alerted me that someone had hit my car. I walk outside and, after a long stream of obscenities, call the cops, my insurance company, a body shop, and Enterprise.

After filling out the report, I start a manhunt because I wanted this bastard's head on a silver platter. I knew many of the cops (city, county, and state) as well as asked a few people around the area to look out for a car with front end damage. I even went so far as to ask the people I know on here to help me look for this sack of ****.

That Monday, I was off work and did some investigation of the pieces of the car at the accident. I found a right turn signal piece and learned it came from a '92 - '93 Taurus. Then I went to a body shop supply store to match the color of the paint.

It was during a "patrol" when I found the POS that hit my car and ran. I found the telltale paint transfer on the right front fender of the car. I was talking to another orger at the time and he heard me say "I found the ****er that hit my car!" I blocked the bastard in his parking spot until the cops came. Ten minutes after the cops arrive, the driver comes out and I instantly grill him. He had an "Oh ****" look on his face when I told him it was my car he hit. He had a bigger "Oh ****" with 4 big men (3 of them cops) ready to drill him.

When we got to the police station, is when the fun began. I loved turning up the heat on him by drilling him. I was even happier when this guy got his car impounded and he got tossed in jail. Furthermore, I was when the cops called his mother. His mother actually said to keep him locked up.

Not sure which insurance company she has, but I'll tell you how we do it.

I'm an auto claims adjustor.

To "total" a car, the damages + rental (if availiable) = the cost of repair

The Actual Cash Value of the car is the NADA value adjusted for mileage - unrelated previous damage.

IF the "total cost of repair" is more than the ACV of the car, then we total the car.

Pretty simple and nothing crazy to confuse people.... unless they think its worth more even with 150K miles and dents and damage all over the place!!!

Well her car has only 36k miles. WE have farmers insurance and the guy that hit her, has Geico. Also her car had a salvage title when she bought it..so she's not sure if the car will be alright to drive..

Wow.... you win.

I know how it is though, similar to what happened to me. Both lucky to be alive.

Its always hard thinking about it, cause most of it is a big blur, atleast for me it is. Brings chills just thinking how it happened.

Ohhh, this is too good!

I bought this pristine 1998 Toyota 4Runner Jan 2, 2005. I had a 15-year old girlfriend ( shut up before you say it, I've heard it all, lol) that I was teaching how to drive better a week later. So she does fine on the roads, I haven't had a heart attack yet. Well, we go the back entrance back to school which is a gravel road. No biggie, its a 4Runner, right? Well, she's going about 25 mph and all of the sudden we find that this gravel road is washboard and has tons of potholes that could swallow a Kia Rio whole. Well, the 4Runner's tail comes out and the rest is history. I yell out some obscentity while she is busy countersteering at opposite lock. This sends us into the bushes, with the 4Runner deflecting off of a large pine. Way to go Honey!!!

Well, if the repairs were done right the first time, then it should be no problem to drive it if it is fixed right this time.

Just by looking at the pics, seems like it should be repairable. Mostly all cosmetic/sheetmetal pieces that can be found easliy from a salvage place. Will be Honda parts (OEM used) and not near as expensive as overpriced OEM new parts.

Do some checking... she may even think about retaining the salvage if they total it again. Never know if you could sell it for a few hundred more bucks than what the salvage value the insurance company is going to take.

If ya have any questions, feel free to ask and I'll pass along what I know and if it sounds as if you are getting a fair shake...

Hope this helps!!

I consider myself very lucky in that I've only had two very minor accidents, both stemming from the same problem and both with a 100% insurance judgement in my favor... they were both with me on a straightaway with someone else turning left from a drive to merge in front of me, hitting my driversside front corner with their passenger side front corner. I felt sorry for the others involved as it wasn't their fault, but police cited them anyway, if I had my way about it, the persons illegally parked blocking my line of sight and the other persons line of sight should have been cited and forced to insure both of our damages.

That's why I never liked parking on the streets of Chicago. It's even worse when there is ice on the streets.

You know, seeing those pictures of the Civic with the guardrail through it, and the story about the Talon and Civic racing should further show why, if you're going to street race, you've got to do it responsibly. Don't try to push out traffic, if it's a busy road, just don't race, don't take passengers, they could end up dead, you in jail for manslaughter. Just be responsible, show a little more awareness for your surroundings, I know that to most of the posters in this thread, this is preaching to the choir, but you just never know what's going to be around that turn or over that hill. And definately show a little bit of responsiblity if you're out drinking, don't drive, I know you think you can, but don't take the chance. I've only had two minor accidents with me driving, I think the worst accident in my life occurred when I wasn't even in the car, wasn't even my car, but a drunk driver took the most important thing in my life from me. For those who think, it couldn't happen to me, I thought the same thing, but then I got the call from my boyfriend's sister telling me he had been hit head on by a drunk and he was dead. So the love of my life was gone forever and the other guy is still serving his prison sentence, once he sobered up and realized what he did, he was a mess... it's something that's going to weigh on him the rest of his life... probably something that will weigh on me for the rest of my life, it'll weigh on my boyfriend's family for the rest of their lives and it snuffed out a life only 19 years old. That's too many lives that have to change just because one person couldn't be bothered to pay for a cab and get their car in the morning.

Well.... go here for pics http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/814976

I was merging on the Interstate, and a white cavalier cut me off - at 70. I swerved, but like a dumb*** I steered like i was going 30, and wound up oversteering into a guardrail. I came out fine, and no other car was damaged. I held up traffic for 30 minutes, which made everyone so pleasant (not). The driver of the white cavalier (with purple tint, a two door with a spikey looking plate frame on the back and mulitspoke wheels, it was a z24, pm for leads), according to two witnesses, cut me off. I was on the interstate for literally two seconds. The troopers didnt believe me, since I was an 18 year old in a sports car. I got a more reliable car though, that LT1 was a part *****.
