Is your love for cars specific to the Maxima?

I love cars, and though the 98 SE 5-spd was my first and only new car, I don't feel anything special towards Maximas. The only reason I am on this forum is because it is quite practical to participate in since I own a Maxima. If I can help someone out with something I've learned about my car, I do and feel good about it. Now and then I also pick up something useful here. On the topic of cars, new ones get me excited. They're unveiling the new 3 Series at the NY Auto show this weekend, but I got an invite to the Philly reception unveiling it next Wed. I'm probably 12 mos. away still from getting one, but I feel the excitement. Wanted one since I was 11.

I hated "rice" er Japanese vehicles until I had a 97 Grand Am It was nothing like my 4g Max which I then fell in love with the first time I drove one ... and the power from my 03 3.5 is well, 100 more hp .. so yeah, reliable power from my 4g will hopefully hold through with my 5.5g The GA started dying in 36k miles.

I started off as a young boy loving cars. This just happens to be my first (bought 4 years used) however I have fallen in love with the blend of (sort of) luxury and performance.

I spend a lot of time on the other cars section if that's any indication.

My first word was "car".. but that was because my brother was obsessed with making that happen. I gotta thank him for that one day.

As for being particular, I can appreciate about 60% of the cars on the road. I'm working on the other 40%, but in some of those 80-90s american economy cars I just don't see a damn thing to be happy with. BMW I hate though, only because so many people are crazy about them and there's one on every damn block. My dad drives an X5, it's a beautiful truck but for the money you can get plenty of other vehicles just as nice.

Don't mind my anti-BMW rant, one of my good friends has 18 of them - hence why I'm tired of hearing about them.

nope

I like all kinds of cars, Nissan is really the only Japanese car that grabs my interest though (although I would love a STi). Bimmer is the only German car that grabs my interest, and the rest is pretty much American

I started taking interested in cars when I was in my first year of H.S. I always had an attitude about foreign cars were junk and Domestic cars are better. Til the day I start shopping for my first car, I wanted a Chrysler Le Baron GTS and when I test drove it, my mom made a comment say, "it reminds me how it rides like the AMC Hornet." That's when I knew, "Piece of Junk". Then I saw a 89 Galant, which I fell in love. Which ended up buying. then when I saw the 3rd Gen maxima, I said, THIS IS THE CAR I WANT!!. Unfortuately they were expensive at the time. Then the 4th Gen came into the scene, I tried getting one but damn Nissan dealer were giving me a hard time. Here's the 5th Gen, I finally got what I WANTED! All in all, I love cars, especially foregins.

I started being interested in cars when i first saw one i think...then up will I was old enough to drive one I collected hundreds of hotwheels and matchbox cars, 1:18th scales, radio controlled, powerwheels etc...I love all cars over $30,000....I distain Kia, Hyundai (except the tibby), and most offerings by Ford and GM. My affordable loves are made in japan, and my dream cars are Itallian and German of course.

I had my first accident when I was 2... My dad came home from work one day and left the door to the truck open and in gear. I climbed in and somehow pushed the clutch down and the truck rolled into the ditch.

Ever since then my mom said I've always been facinated with cars and trucks. My first vehicle was a 90 Nissan D21... God I miss that truck. I did so much work to it.

After I joined, I traded it in for a 02 Nissan Fontier... and I love that truck as much as I did the old one. Needed another car when I got married, and the wife wanted something with power and manaul. Well I love Nissan a lot... so I went out and found My Max... the wife wants an old Muscle car now... so I got the Max. I just fell in love with it.

I love the fact it's in a class of it's own. Not in the ricer class, not in the luxury. I'm working mine so it's half Street racer/ half muscle. I.E hoodscoop and my Ravin Muffler perfectly matches what I'm doing.

My wife still says I'm a truck guy, and that's what I look the best in. But I love the challenge of builing up the Maxima. Especially my VG motor.

But my love for "cars" is not limited to just the Max... I still want a 88 Grand National... or a 69 Charger.

my first car was a 1998 Lexus ES300, my mom gave me the car when i got my license, her replacement was a 2001 Lexus LX470, but didnt like it, so now she drives my dads car 97 Pathfinder and my dad drives the new Lexus. The ES300 was a great car, looked good, fairly quick, good gas mileage, but it was an auto. too bad I lost control while driving to a beach and ran in through a couple street signs, up some curbs, through some bushes and ended up in a parking lot off of a highway (good thing no one got hurt), the week after, I got my Maxima and loved the power, reliability, looks and best of all, being a 5 speed manual. in a few months or so, im giving my maxima to my bro, who will be getting his license soon, i wanna stay in the Nissan family, but i want AWD and TURBO. hmmmm.....NISSAN, AWD, and TURBOS....SKYLINE GT-R, all i need now is 90,000 bux, hmm....thats like working for almost 5 years w/o spending a dime.

I had a fascination with cars ever since I can remember. My parents even tell me stories about myself and cars that go back to when I was 3 or 4 years old, which I don't remember. Probably until I was 7 or 8, I'd constantly ask "What kind of car is that?".

The first car I really loved was the '87 Maxima...to the point I tried convincing my dad that buying one of those would have been a better overall buy, including reasons like resale value and reliability, than the '87 Taurus they got. This coming from a then 12 year old. I of course was right in the end as they gave me the Taurus in college and in general it proved to be an unreliable POS--the rust was the least of this car's problems. My folks replacement for the Taurus? A 1995 Maxima.

It's a GLE and had been completely trouble free for them for nine of its ten years--literally just tires, oil changes, the odd brake job and a battery up until last spring when some of the usual 4th gen problems started popping up. Not a bad track record.

new (used) maxima

i am 18 and will son be on the way to college. two days ago my mom and i went car shopping (not intending to buy). we went to carmax for their reputation for good used cars. we walked around for about 20 minutes and saw nothing. that is until we fell upon a 97 maxima se with 106k miles and a sticker price of 6998. well, needless to say 5 hours later we had a new car. this car is in immaculate condition for the year and miles. and the price was very considerable. i have been a nissan fan ever since i saw the 94 300ZX and although the maxima is obviously not my first choice i feel that it will be a great car for many years to come. atleast until i can get the money for that 94 300ZX 2seater twin turbo

Mine love for cars is not just toward the max. It started with the dodge viper and grew from there to many others.

no offense to you but i loathe the name mustang. it is the generic car for the everyday sports motorist and, in my opinion, has no class at all. but good luck on getting one

yes, b/c my older siblings both have had Max's while I had my '98 Altima at the time. My oldest sis had a '97 SE, loaded, while my brother's (original owner) was a basic '98 SE. My brother moved onto a better car and handed down his Max to me

My love for cars is pretty limited. I have an open mind but I think most cars are failures in what they try to accomplish. My max represents a lot of what I'm looking for in a car. Most importantly, it can be a huge sleeper (with the fairly new advent of 3.5 swaps into 4th gens).

It's a car NOT made to be modded like civics and the like. Keep the rice away. I find 90% of "cosmetic" mods ugly.

The vast majority of the time, people make their cars uglier while trying to "Stand Out" of the crowd with stupid-looking rims, overblown body kits, and bling bling mods. It's just another case of "Look at me!".

To me a nice paintjob and a subtle drop will do it for appearance mods. No stickers, no flashy stuff. The maxima's lines are understated, should remain that way.

What I love is the whole grocery-getter-hauling-@ss vibe. Love that.

Too bad it's not Rear-wheel drive.

I'm actually becoming more and more a subaru fan after seeing some of the specs for the newer model engines, and of course all wheel drive, nice cars and somewhat rare to see up here in the northeast for some reason

i'm sure i'm not alone and due to the fact that i am 18 i love fast cars.......my first was a 82 280ZX 5 spd with an intake and some interior mods done by yours truly........it wasn't in the best shape when i got it (especially interior) but it was fun as h3ll to drive and i drove it to death (twice)......i will always remember the nights of pick up street racing and doing 180's to evade the law

after the death of my baby i was given a 92 camry auto 4dr (boring)......other than the somewhat classy look and the fact that it was previously owned and kept under 95k miles by a rich guy in north dallas it definitely does not impress me

as i said 2 days ago we bought the maxima and although it is auto it is a blast to drive.....my mother and i are still fighting over who gets to drive it.....the funny thing is that my mom's credit was too bad to buy it and it is in my name but as of now she is paying for it so until i get a job i really can't do anything.........and in the back of my mind i'm still waiting for the opportunity for that 300zx

Should have bought a 5-speed. I've driven both, same year, and there really is a big difference.

I still hate rice... I don't consider *most* of our cars rice, and I own an I30, tuning can be done tastefully and that makes it no different than tuning up american muscle, what makes it rice to me is a coconut launcher exhaust that sounds like your car is about to have a large bowel movement or 18+ inch chrome on a car that cost less than the rims, lowered to the point it drags it's rear like a dog with an itch every time it pulls out of a driveway... Lights that make a car unsafe to drive, I don't mind light mods, I really don't, specifically though, if you have brake lights that I can't see until I almost need to be surgically removed from your back end, you need to be dragged out of your vehicle and hit with a stupid stick. No, I don't consider modding my japanese vehicles (I have a 98 I30 and a 93 Scooby (Subaru, for those that don't know) SVX (Alcyone) and soon hopefully my dream, a 60's Toyota 2000GT... sigh, too bad it's a wreck, lotta work) any different from tuning up a modern Grand Am or Ram Truck or even a 60's Mustang, but it's the second you don't have any regard for how rediculous or unsafe your vehicle may have become that you are rice, I have seen many integras, civics, eclipses, etc. that I wouldn't consider rice, but I've seen a lot more that I would. Just my 2 cents

Edit: Oh... I ranted and forgot the topic, heck yeah I like cars! I love working on them, I loved helping my grandpa restore a 34 Ford V8 Coupe, a 66 Mustang Hardtop, and some old VW bug, I don't know why, but just working with a car gives you a feeling of having accomplished something, and when you can drive something you've put sweat, heart, soul, and sometimes a little blood into, I think you just enjoy driving it a bit more than before

first of all i don't know how many 5spd maximas you're gonna find at carmax and second of all we could not pass up the deal that we could get on this car

i agree with the whole rice scene.....i would much rather have a stock body with a monster under the hood and maybe some xenon headlights and tent than 200 lbs of bod mods and taillights that look like a ufo......i am partial to wings.....i like the subtle 2-4 inch wings that add just that little bit of sporty appeal to car but the airplane wings definitely turn me off

what i like about foreign (mostly japanese) cars is that with pretty much all of the underhood modifications you want.....especially with today's gas prices......you can still get over 20 mpg easily

The Maxima got my interest in cars started. It just so happens, it's a pretty decent car to learn more about the subject. I believe my interest and desire to mod will continue with each new car I come across but my 4th gen will hold a special place in my heart.

to the supra post.......i have found so many people that claim to love supras and i just have to say.....why not get vurtually the same engine in a smaller body and a smaller budget with the 300zx.....and i do say the 300zx is my fav affordable car but if i had the chance to get a skyline (tough to get used to driving on the other side of the car and shifting with the left hand) i would definitely do it

interesting story about the skyline.......i'm sure everyone has seen or heard of fast and the furious and although i hate the whole fake-get-a-low-civic-and-a-bunch-of-japanese-girls-in-short-skirts-and-small-shirts-and-have-a-street-race thing the movie does have a sort of appeal to it......neway in the movie they had to disable the awd to even get the car to slide on the turns.....just shows how much of a badass performer that car is

well i guess if the 300zx changed your mind about imports that insures me that my dream is worthwhile.......i would hate to hype up the 300zx and then buy one and not have it fulfill my wishes
