I was supposed to be selling this (JWT ECU) and after install I dropped it and it started rattling. I took the cover off and this is what I found. Assuming this is all that broke, I should be able to buy another stock ECU and have that chip board soldered in, right? Please say yes.

ouch that hurts. I see the connectors to the main board are solid metal.. this gives you a lot of leeway to soldier anything onto them withough bothering with the main board.

Question is, how good of a welder are you and are you sure that's all the damage?

When I get another ECU, I'm going to take it to a computer shop and let them weld it in. Nothing else looked damaged so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed. I'm just glad the JWT board is still intact. If I can't fix that part, maybe they can move the JWT board over.

Ouch! You are screwed! Good luck if you can get that part of the circuit, in fact, you don't even know what that piece of circuit does, otherwise you have to replace the whole thing.

I'm going to try to give them (JWT) a call today and see if they'll let me have a computer shop move their board to another ECU. I don't want to sell this ECU to anyone. Could be more wrong with it than I can see visually. Hopefully they won't try to have me ship it back to them and wait a year to get it back.

If all you want is that piece soldered back on from another ECU, that is easy. I bet I could do it in about 5 minutes. If you dont have the right tools I would not even mess with it. I rework boards on almost a daily basis and that (through hole connection) is the easiest of them all to repair. If you feel like shipping it some where I could repair it for you. I will guarantee my workman ship, but wont guarantee that it fixes the ECU.

Thanks for the offer. I think it'd be better for me to just get another ECU that I know is working and go from there. I spoke with Ben at JWT this morning and he said if I send in the broken ECU with another stock one they'll swap out the JWT board for $100 and check it all out to make sure everything's okay. Looking at a 2 to 3 week turnaround.

Gonna cost me but at least it's not a total loss.

Thats an easy fix...

Assuming the board is the only thing that is broken. Any good computer shop employee that knows how to solder can replace that in 10 minutes. However you will have to find a spare ECU to get that board out of.

That's what I'm worried about. I don't want to waste an stock ECU trying to fix a busted one that can't be fixed.

I highly recommend sending it to JWT and let them do the work. that way they can test it out on the bench and see if/how it works before you spend all your time and $ trying to fix one that's beyond help.
