Black... or blue?

I'm thorn

My car needs a paintjob this spring/summer and I'm still not sure whether to leave it black... or blue. It's a bright, not too dark blue. Not as dark as Subaru blue, more like Mazda blue, maybe a bit brighter.

My max is a 4th gen, 1995, by the way.

The blue would be alot like this:

Blue 4th gens are REALLY rare. This one (EZEmaxima's car) has a paler blue:

But then again... who doesn't love the classic black-on-black 4th gen...

Anyone know how much more expensive it'd be to paint my car blue instead of staying with the original color, black?

So many choices... too little time...

Go for blue only because it's so rare. Besides, if you ever lost your car in a parking lot, it would be a lot easier to find than black

agreed, go with blue because its rare. don't think its on any maximas besides a custom paint job. besides, i think a blue like that in the pics looks good on a maxima.

Anyone has an idea how much more it'd cost me to change color vs same black? Money is an issue too.

If you have to ask how much more it would cost, I wouldn't bother changing the color. I believe the incremental cost of a color change is a fair bit. Obviously it depends on who you take it to. I wouldn't be surprised if its at least another $1,000.

For the difference in price, go black and use the extra money towards other things. A good $1000-$1500 could buy you wheels and maybe a body kit. Now that would better than a blue stock maxima!

also, does the whole car need paint or mainly just the nose? Get the nose done and do a kit. Same on money. Spending $3000-$4000 on a color change isn't worth doing to a 10 year old car.

when I was getting paint quotes my car was black and is now viper blue. Most body shops said it would be about 1k more to do the color change, rather than just painting it black again.....and thats not doing the engine bay.

I agree. Go black. That shade of blue will make your eyes hurt after a while. If you want blue, the darker blue that was available stock on the 5/5.5th gen Max is hot.

It depends if you want your car to be low-key or not. I'd choose black as to not draw too much attention from the po-po.

If you have black interior, you almost have to go with a black exterior IMO. The dark blue would be my suggestion if you decide to change the color - something like Nismotic's color

It's far from stock, but it looks stock.

Either way I think I'm gonna stick with black... I asked the guy at the body shop and he estimates 1200 more.

The only thing that won't look stock is the chrome exhaust tip... and it's not big.

The two front fenders are still on the primer, bumper isn't painted (it's a 97 bumper), hood is FULL of paint chips (might change it for a CF hood if I can get a good deal on one. Feel free to be guilty of a *SHAMELESS PLUG*), the rocker panels need to be repaired (they're not bad, but I want the car to look brand new), it has PLENTY of little (and bigger) scratches, a big scratch where the sunroof wind deflector used to be (I HATE those deflectors) and it has that ping-pong ball sized bubble in the paint that all nissans have just above the windshield.

Plus, while I'm using a 97 bumper, I am keeping a 95 grill and modifying it a little so there won't be a gap between bumper and grill. Interior is super clean, as is engine bay now that it's got a real clean Vq35de. So yeah, I think it's worth getting a complete paint job. Staying with black

Black all the way.. But if you're set on getting blue, the Honda Civic Si electron blue is a nicer shade than that Mazda Protege5's blue in my opinion.

Either a majestic blue or a deep midnight blue would be nice... if its that lighter blue that's your option, then I'd go with black instead...

Paint it black. Sometimes it isn't best to stand out.. Do you really want people looking at the car saying WTF was he thinking painting a maxima that color?

I'm actually in the same predicement. I can't decide between black or blue. If blue, I was thinking of either the 350z blue or maybe the Acura TL blue. Cost will definitely be a factor for me, but if you want to stand out, go with blue, otherwise like someone else has mentioned, if it's only the front that needs a paint job, do that and save money. Anyways, good luck with the project and be sure to post pics when done.

That blue doesnt go for some reason.. Only blue I can say I like is that viper blue .. Also going from black is going to be expensive..

You want the sexiest blue?

Metallic Neptune blue. Some guy got it on the forums and I think its the hottest color there is for a 4th gen.

That blue you in the picture is the most popular "I want to make my car different" blue, so not, it's not really. Pick something darker. I'm partial to Lakeshore Blue (pics on homepage) but I also like the Neptune Blue
