HID experts plz step inside..

well yesterday i got stopped for my headlight being out. Im pretty sure that my gay silverstars have started to go on me. I was thinkin about getting some Nokya bulbs and upgrading the harness but for all that i think its just worth it to get a HID plug and play kit. I know there is a group deal going but i am looking to see if anyone can give me some info about HIDS.

Im really looking for something bright, not blinding, but will also increase visibility. my silverstars really dont do crap in the rain. What the difference between a 5000k and a 7000k or even a 12000k? is there any webpage or anything that would have info about all this?

If anyone has bought the kit from maximabest or uminitza could you post pictures or a little review. Any pictures would be greatly appricated

Thanks

Sean

Well I'm not an expert but I'll share with you what I know.
The best option would be to retrofit some bi-xenon projectors into your headlight housing and slap in some 4100K d2S bulbs with OEM ballast.
If you chose not to go that route and go with the kit, then go with a 4100K to 6000K kit. That will give you the best output. Anything higher than that is pure garbage!! You'll get some folks on here telling you that their 7000K+ is the way to go, but all those higher rated kits do is through out ah set of blue light on the road, which basically defeats the purpose of getting the kit. Also if you get a kit, get a wiring harness to get power straight from the battery instead of goin through your OEM harness. If you power from you OEM harness, over time the extrememly high startup current will melt your harness.

the plug and play kits going into a halogen headlight will cause excessive glare due to the lack of proper shielding. in a 9004 headlight housing the HID pattern will look like 2 big light splatters on the wall.

using a projector set up will give u the beam pattern that's correct for the HID bulb. _/---_/--- <-- something like this.

about the "Ks"...that's basically tells u about the color of the light. higher the number the less light you're going to see. in OEM set up i believe they are 4000K or 4200K. there's a replacement D2S that phillips make that produces 5000K and then there's the famous ultinon that pushes 6000K. anything else is just cheap marketing hype. 12000K?? that's almost like UV light.

K = Kelvin light emission scale.

White sunlight(brightest) happens about 4-6k roughly. Anything above is considered the "cool" colors with much less light output, even though the # value is higher, it just related to a higher energy level, such as "hottest part is tip of the blue flame", it may be the hottest, but not the brightest. Take the temperature comment with a 1/2 grain of salt, because HID's take less wattage to burn, (35w compared to 55w)
Point : Stick with 4100-6000k for highest light output.

IMHO 6,000k 9004 kit will give you the most light output on the street at night(using stock 4th gen 97-99 headlight housings).

trust me, do the retrofit Sean. go on Ebay and look for some projectors, a ballast and a pair of D2S bulbs. For more info...goto HIDforums.com. There's a wealth of information there.

Also, if u wanna look at different types/brands of projectors, check out this link.

sean, please wait until you have the money for a retrofit! I got EVERYTHING I needed for mine for 370 shipped off ebay which I doubt is much more expensive than the group deal. Plus mine were a good set of more expensive bixenon Bosch E46 from a BMW M3. It's not too hard to do the retrofit yourself once you learn what each thing does. I knew NOTHING before I started mine and I feel I have learned a ton so you can do it to!

You can get a full set of Hella E55 bixenon projectors, Hella Gen 4 ballasts with integrated ignitors, 4100k phillips bulbs with bulb holders for way less than the 370 I paid (Seen on ebay for less than 300) and still have INFINITELY better lighting than anything a plug and play kit will give you! Easier install than my set as well! The best part about it is that you won't **** people off either!

The last thing we need is one more max with glaring HIDS in crap *** 9004 reflectors which are the worst reflectors on the road today imho!

I have a high low kit and wish it was easy to get retrofit back when I bought my kit. Go for a retrofit.

Hard to tell from the far away pic. They look like Bosch E46 bixenons which are great but I can't tell what kind of ballasts those are. I think MB uses Hella Bixenons and ballasts. I would go to hidforum and post the link and ask what kind of components those are.

good luck bidding!

so if this is all i need, how hard is the install and wiring? i have opened my headlights before. I read the how to that was in the sticky. It wasnt to through but it did give me an idea. What are all the componments that i need to get this installed? I really want to do this. Im willing to spend around 240 or so because thats what the HID plug and play kit is.
