Grounding wire set

Ive seen a few of you guys installing these kits. What exactly do they do?
Any substancial power gain? Any proven facts?

Looks good in the engine bay, smoother idle, some say your lights get brighter. I dont think there any power gains from em.

I have some. The lights are brighter, no more lag in 2nd gear at 10 mph kicks down to 1st. It smoothens out the power band overall.

I have intake, ypipe, and some ground wires. My buddy has an intake and ypipe. And when I hit around 50, I start to pull about a half a car or more on him.

No power gains... most have just experienced better throttle response, smoother shifting (autos), smoother idling, brighter lights, and more...

Some info on grounding in this thread:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ight=grounding

There are plenty of pre-made kits, but its something you can DIY...

Hope that helps a little...

throtle response will get better, other than that, its just one of those mods that you get for the hell of having it.

Hey, the fact that those wires do ANYTHING is pretty cool to me. If it made the HID's and/or fogs brighter id be pretty impressed...if it improved idle and shifting Id say Id be amazed.

I think you'll be impressed... just go to Home Depot and make your own... it costs like $30 in materials, so its a low risk investment, IMO... there are some write-ups for the grounding points on a VQ35 in the 5th Gen forums somewhere... should be the same for you 6th Gens...

Since the ECU makes decisions based on information from a myriad of sensors, it is criticial that the electrical signals be clear and strong. The wiring kits ensure that by providing individual grounds for various components instead of using a common ground. If there is a short in the wiring system that uses a common ground, other connections could be compromised. Having individual grounds protects against such a scenario.

Also, a stronger and clearer signal translates into a more efficiently operating electrical system, which means getting the most out of it, including more power and responsiveness.

my idle was a little better.

I saw more of a gain from cleaning the battery terminals.

I got one of those kits, but it is unlike the one shown in the Active Tuning article. It has six wires: intake manifold, engine block, head lamp, cylinder head, alternator, and transmission. These wires are all hooked up to a round aluminum disk which attaches directly to the -terminal of the battery.

It came with no installation instructions (of course).

Any suggestions as to how to connect the additional wires??

what is that piece that is needed if you just have a regular battery and not an optima? I might end up getting a ground kit in a few weeks.

The ground wires smoothen out the entire power band. You won't gain any overall HP but you will gain back the power that you have lost.

If you are ordering it through eBay, you might also consider getting the Nismo voltage stabilizer. I bought the grounding kit and voltage stabilizer, but have not installed the grounding kit yet until I remove the old battery and put in a new one (may go with an Optima, or Interstate Mega-Tron, but really want an Exide Orbital. I also need to remove the air box snorkel and some other things to get at the bolts where the wires will go).

In the meantime, I can give you my impressions of what the stabilizer did after I hooked it up to my battery.

First off, the car started a bit quicker than usual. Secondly, under normal acceleration, upshifting from 2nd to 3rd occurred at a slightly lower RPM, and going from 1st to 2nd occurred at a slightly higher RPM, so it appears to have shifted the band somewhat. Lastly, the headlights seemed a little brighter.

When I put in the new battery, I will run some performance tests using my Tazzo monitor under the following conditions: (1) battery alone, (2) stabilizer alone, (3) grounding kit alone, and finally grounding kit and stabilizer.

It's true. The lights get brighter, smoother throttle response and the tranny shifts a little bit better.

As soon as I put mine on I noticed my light got a lot brighter.

Hey as posted before, for those of you that are not DIYers, we offer a custom kit fit specifically to the Maxima for $40 shipped. It will be pretty hard to get the materials yourself for that price, so it's a great deal we are offering The price is an intro price as well, and will soon be $49.99

Here's the link if interested:

http://www.activetuning.com/products...NI-MX-04GRNDKT

If you guys have any questions, just ask

As for the questions regarding power gains, don't expect any really, but it does depend on the car. Some cars it honestly feels like night and day, you'd have to feel it to believe it. But if you go on our site and read some of the reviews for the Altima 3.5 kits you'll see what other customers had to say (and as you know the 3.5 Altima is the same setup as you guys):

http://www.activetuning.com/store/pr...products_id=52

Got the silver kit, super fast shipping, great customer service, and helped a lot! I got better gas mileage which was the best for me seeing as how high the gas prices are! Thanks AT, u the best!
Great mod, my ride is a lot smoother and all the ligths are more brighter!!!
This was a pretty straight forward low cost mod. The install directions were excellent!! The bolt on the transmission was a real pain(big time)to get at, but everything else was real simple. I tested my power sunroof with a stop watch prior to and after the mod. I was very surprised to see how much faster in opened after the mod, stop watch verified this. Dont know about any HP gains but would recomend it.
This is one of the best low cost mods that you could do. I noticed everything was brighter. Car idled much quieter. My stereo quit dimming from the bass.
Well, I have almost 53,000 miles on my car and it seems if the electrical system had lost some efficiency before I put this thing on; my sunroof for example, had started closing slower and my headlights didn't seem as bright as they were when I got the car. Anyways, after I put the AT grounding kit on, I noticed my car sounded and felt much smoother when I started it up. Well, I was driving around last night enjoying the cool air, and I opened my sunroof and it was back to normal...that one thing alone was worth th $40. Also the lights seemed brighter, car shifted smoother, and the radio even seemed to sound a little better. Anyways, this is a great product, that was extremely easy to install. Thanks guys.
Those are all unedited reviews posted at will by customers.

I realized that I dont have enough wire, plus my bro in law wants a kit too, so ActiveTuning, I just ordered 2 kits from you. Free shipping at 40 bucks each, great price!

Look foward in installing your kit and giving a write up on the maxima side.

Hey Paolo! I did get the order and just finished making the kits here a couple hours ago (between that and working on the TT install on my z )! Your kits are packed sitting here in front of me ready to ship out first thing in the morning, thanks for the order, and I'm sure you'll be happy with the kit

Looking forward to hearing your opinion!

so if i am a DIYer and i have 5 gauge wire would that be acceptable for the grounding of a 5th gen. I figure why spend more money when i have already got what i thinkis efficent. What are the home depot guys using or does it not matter to much. Also what kind of ring terminals are they using, basic zinc or gold.

If you are making your own grounding kit, I suggest getting a thick piece of copper about 3 in" long and 1/4" to 3/8" thick, drill some holes in it for the separate grounding wires, and attach it to the front car frame, making sure you scrape away the paint to make a good contact.

Five gauge is fine, if it is stranded copper wire. As for the ring terminals, commercial kits use gold-plated aluminum, or just aluminum. The best conductor, however, is silver, followed closely behind by copper. If you can find copper terminals, use them.

Get a standard battery grounding strip and screw it to the copper block, along with the other grounding cables: one to the engine block, one to the intake manifold, one to the alternator body, one to the transmission housing, and one to the headlight (or two, one to left and right).

DO NOT connect any cables to any of the sensors in your car, like the EGR, MAF, IAT, etc.

If I had not bought a commercial kit, this is how I would have done mine.
