Installing clutch this weekend...a few questions.

Do you need any special tools for this? me and my dad are doing and we have only done rwd cars. Looking in the FSM it shows a special tool for the ball joint and another one for taking the axle out. Anyone who has done this, can you give some advice? also, anyone know of a member who has a write up with pics? that might be more helpful than the FSM, thanks.

Special tool for the ball joint? HUH?

Basically....you
unhook the battery
take out the starter / slave cylinder
take off wheels
drain the tranny
unbolt suspension
4th gens have 36mm AXLE nut - take out axles ---- drivers side needs to be pryed out w/ crobar, passenger side has 3 10mm bolts holding it in
drop the tranny - there's multiple 17mm and 14mm bolts
\
Only pic I got - I did this in my driveway by myself once...Im sure you and pops can knock it out.

You'll need a clutch alignment tool when puttin the clutch in

Ive got to do mine soon too...argh

go to hear its not that bad of a job gotta change mine and most likely tranny in a month, refuse to pay another shop to do it again.

Does anyone know how much on average the dealer will charge to resurface the flywheel or a different place to do it? I know mine will be in need of it.

So I am done, took around 6 hours with me and my dad...air tools are the stuff...just a few little things that took long, I think next time I can do it faster, especially if it is not 100+ degrees outside.

If you leave the crossmember, it is great to have ratcheting wrenches like Gear wrenches. The space between the crossmember and bolts is tight so having the gear wrench set was definitely KEY. Not dropping the y-pipe or crossmember like Haynes tells you to definitely saves time. When I first did it, it must have took 6-7 hours or so. I immediately discovered I must have botched the rear main seal install. I had to redo the work right then and there and I swear it must have only been 3 hours.
