What to use to attach a badge?
hey, everyone...
im planning ong shaving my trunk and putting a custom emblem on, however, i have no idea what adhesive to use...
im going to use 3m adhesive remover to shave the trunk (is that a good idea?)....
i was thinking about strong glue, but that sounds somewhat "ghetto"....
thanks....

I just did this last week -- buy a roll of 3M molding tape from AutoZone or any auto parts store. DO NOT USE GLUE! The roll of tape is about 5 bucks and it works great. Here is a pic so you can see how good it looks with the new 5.5 generation rear Nissan emblem:
Just do the job right, take your time, and cut the pieces of double sided tape to fit the badge perfectly and you will be very happy. After you have cut the tape to size and placed it on the badge, heat the adhesive up and then stick it on the car, this way it will mesh better with the body of the car.
EDIT: To easily remove the old badges, just take the blow dryer and point it at full blast right at the badges. This will "loosen" the adhesive up and allow you to pull the badge off more easily.

Thanks guys.. I have a pretty good idea of what to do now...
But I had this one question pop up right now: when you remove the old badges, is there a visible difference in appearance (pain color)? I dont really want to end up in a situation where you can see the outlines of the old badges, cause I neither have the time nor the money to get the whole trunk repainted.... Just a small concern...
Thanks a lot for the help....
Also, S00NR1, did you have any problems putting on the new badge? Im pretty sure the top of the trunk does not have a smoth edge, meaning that it curves in a little bit.... I might be wrong, but I dont really feel like going outside to check it right now.... =)

Here's what I did:
1. Heated up old emblem/adhesive.
2. Opened up trunk and broke off the tabs from the inside of the trunk that the rear emblem links into.
3. Pulled emblem/adhesive off.
4. Used goo-b-gone to get rid of the last of the adhesive off the paint.
5. Washed/Polished/Waxed area where old emblem was -- there was NO outline at all.
6. Heated up adhesive on the back of the new emblem.
7. Put the new emblem on.
To answer your question, the new emblem I put on the trunk was a Nissan trunk emblem from Soonerfan's 2002. Thus, it was already fabricated to fit the curve of the trunk lid. Hope this helps.
