plms consult interface problems

hey pimps and playets, i just bought the consult program from this company http://www.plmsdevelopments.com/consult_if.htm. well i tried it out once i got it and or some wierd reason it doesnt want to work on my 98 max. it seems that it can read the ecu or the ecu isnt sendin info to it, which i found wierd since i used to use a diferent obd2 reader and it worked just fine. i then tried it on my brothers 95 max and it read the ecu but for some reason the guages and the data log all read zero. i'm waiting for the guy to email me back because the software developer is on vacation till july 2nd and i cont wait that long. so i was wondering if any of u guys know why it reads the 95 ecu and not the 98 ecu...and y it would display any of the data like rpm/spd/timing on the 95 ecu. i hope this hasnt confused anyone here.
so on the 98 the program doesnt work.......
but it reads the 95 ecu but it wont display any of the info.

i also did the bens ecu mod ( speed limiter removal) on the 98 ecu.

any info on how to fix this issue?

hmm. and you said obd2 reader is fine? Maybe it's one of the pins on the harness. I will look at the pin-out and get back to you.

BTW, have you tried hard-wiring the consult?

I have seen it work on a few different S13's. It is really cool stuff.

the guy that made the software got back to me and told me that its possible that nissan has started to use the consult 2 protocol on the 98+ year maxes. i have gotten the progrm to work on a 95 max and it looks great and seems to have tons of features with it. i just need to see if they have a program that would let my 98 max work with it.

i believe only obd-I only went up to 96 for maximas.

The plug is a little different on the 95's i've seen and it comes out from the passenger side unlike the obd-II's which are near the drivers left knee pointing downwards

Don't be fooled by people who say their max was made in 94 and they have OBDI. Infact I recall there being OBDII nissan cars back in the early 90's befoee it was a must have standard.

but the 95-96 have a OBD-I com port, no?

according to Tadashi at technosquare, Maximas prior to 96 are OBD-I or some sort of odd version to meet compliance. And the 97-00 maximas are not fully OBD-II, Nissan only did enough to meet regulations. That could go to explain why my scantool which only works for OBD-II cars does not work on 95-00 maximas

Kelvo911- this program has alot of things that i assume u can mess around with. i have been to afraid to mess around with the ecu parameters since i have only used it on my brothers maxima. if it worked on my car then i would try out more of the advanced features. one of the intresting features on tha advanced mode is the base timing and the option to change things. but if my brother lets me or if i can get a hold of a 95-96 ecu i would try to permently alter things. but it seems to have that mode.

and for everyone else- this progam doesnt plug into the obd2 plug thats down by where your knee would sit, it plugs into a small grey port thats located in the fuse box above the obd2 port. the guy who made this, pete, told me that its possible that nissan changed the ecu's over to the consult 2 protocol sometime in the 97yr. he says thats odd because he knows that the r34 is still consolt 1. he was a really cool guy and offered me a refund since we couldnt get it to work on a 98 max. i think im gonna keep it and see if i can get it to work on other yr maxes and let you guys know what happens. i will also try to alter things and see if the ecu permently saves it that way.

there are 3 things im wondering about...
1) which years it works on
2) if our ecu allows us to make changes this way, i would assume this is the same way the dealership woud do it since its not throuh the obd2 port but through a nissan only kind of port.
3) if this would work on people with 95 ecus in older maxes or people with the hybrid setups or those using more then one ecu.

once i get a chance to go to a meet i can do a more widespread test with this interface system

thanks,
will

You can't make any changes with a consult on a 4th gen maxima. It is for info only purposes.
