What a Totalled 2K2 looks like...

Exactly 2 weeks ago today, got in an accident on my way to work. It was an unprotected intersection (no traffic lights or signs). My front right hit his front left, we both spun together and hit our backends together too. Fortuanately, everyone was ok overall. Still, I've been going to the chiro for adjustments & massage a few times a week.

Damage is estimated at $15K, so it's a total loss. Insurance co. is taking forever to finish the final estimate, so still waiting on that. I know they're gonna try to screw me on the value, so I'm getting prepared for that upcoming battle. I took some stuff off before the accident, and have pulled a couple things already. Fortuanately they said I'll have a chance to swap out the rest of my aftermarket parts, since I have the stock replacements in storage. Once I have that stuff off the car, obviously I'll be posting a FS thread on here...

Update:
ALL my Aftermarket & leftover OEM parts are now For Sale. CLICK HERE

So been doing alot of thinking about what to get now. Here are the cars I'm currently debating, in order of total cost:
S13 w/RB20DET swap - fast, custom, and Nissan, but too kid racer
SC300 w/2JZGTE swap - fast, custom, still lux, but not a Nissan
'99 Impreza 2.5RS w/STI swap - clean, fast, custom, but I know jack about boxer engines
R32 GTS-T - RH drive, custom, but old and overpriced in the US since same car is 1/2 the price in Canada
'02 WRX - newer, very moddable, but not lux at all
'03 350Z - great prices, Nissan, but 2-seater is tough to live with
'03 G35c - my dream car right now, but on the expensive side

I've considered another 5.5gen, but it's pretty unlikely. Any comments or other suggestions?

Damn dude, sorry to hear about that! Hope all goes ok with the insurance co.

I know someone selling a G35C, full suede interior, stoptech front and rear, ProCharger SC, Veilside rims. $48k. Probably out of your price range, but just thought I'd throw that out there.

Sorry to hear about your ride man. On the lighter side, have you looked into a used g35c or sedan? There is tons of deals out there and I picked up my 03 G35 sedan for about 21k with negotiations hehe. Mine is fully loaded with aero kit and I only had like 20k miles on it. This was also in the beginning of last year. You can probably walk away with a 03 coupe for like low to mid 20s.

I guess it must have been frame damage cause cosmetically it doesn't look THAT bad. A buddy of mine bought a Lexus SC300, did the engine swap, dropped a twin turbo in it, exhaust and a set of 19z; total he has a little over $8000 (he got some hook ups) in it, let me tell you buddy, that car moves!! It's a luxury sleeper car, in all honesty since he took me for a spin in it I would trade my 4th gen for it. It also maybe worthwhile to look on eBay motors and find a good fixer upper deal on there too. An IS300 wouldn't be a bad move either.

Yup, checked out the Legacy GT at the dealer but didn't drive it b/c it was alot more expensive than I'd expected. Seems like a great car, but runs $30K plus with options, and for that price I'd rather get a barely used G35c.

G35 sedans are cheaper than the coupe, but I think it's ugly. I love the coupe though, and the cheapest ones with reasonable miles are about $28K.

Def no on the IS300 b/c it's too slow and too many boy racers have that car.

Right now my top choices are the S13, SC300, and G35c

I'm not sure how old you are, but I think all the choices above are super ... except for the G35c. That is a good choice.

I don't necessarily believe that your car is a write-off. For it to be a write-off there would have to be frame damage that couldn't be easily remedied. To assess whether or not there is frame damage, and if so the extent thereof, would they not have to take the front end apart to verify that. I question if this has been done and consequently would prepare myself for the potential that the car will be fixed.

Have they out and out told you its a write-off and all you're waiting on is the offer?

Actually slight UNIBODY damage isn't that hard to fix. It's just some time on the machine to tweak it back to specs. It's the replacement of all the panels, bodywork and paint (pearls are expensive) + labor. That damage can easily be $15k now days.

Since replacement cost appears to be a definite consideration, if it's written off, stay with the family and move up one year to a 2003SE, titanium edition, with the 6-speed as you had. Hopefully my good friends in the 6th Gen forum won't be insulted by my suggestion.

Well if the G35c is your dream car, I say you should get it. Think about it, a 97-99 SC300 with manual with low miles will run you around 20+, the guy a few post up said the turbo kit and other stuff is like 8000+ (and he had hook ups) so, right there, you are around G35c territory in price. You might as well get a manual g35c and call it a day. They basically come perfect stock, minus the clear bumper lenses (I did mine the first day) and you can mod later. Why spend 8000 on a turbo for the SC300 when if you get the need for speed for the g35, you can save about 3500 for a Procharger or stillen supercharger for the G35 and still whip up on the SC300 with turbo?

Sorry to hear about the car. From the picture you posted, the damage doesn't look bad, how it is possible the damage totaled to $15k?? is there frame damage? cuz from the look of the body damage, it's like at least $5k of damage

Sorry about the accident. I'll put my vote in for the G35c or the SC300 with 2JZ-GTE swap.

Used SC300s aren't that expensive (certainly not $20k+) but 2JZ-GTE's + installation (if you're not doing it yourself) can be. G35c on the other hand is a relatively new car with a warranty, reliability, and all the creature comforts that new vehicles have these days.

I'd say S13 with an RB swap but I think it'd be hard to go from a relatively new car to something nearly 15 years old by now (if it's your primary driver).

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but does your friend's SC300 happen to be red with black bumpers and happen to reside in the Meadowood Apt. complex? I'm over there a LOT and see an SC300 like I described with an intercooler sitting behind the front bumper. It looks NICE. That Jetta over there is pretty slick too.

Besides the expensive pearl paint and replacement panels, there seems to be some frame damage. The engine/tranny were also pushed, so they mentioned it might need to be replaced or something. Also busted pumps, radiator, not to mention labor...

Not to start any debate or anything, but around here Meta, a good low mileage (fairly low mileage) SC300 98-2000 still run around $19995+. Taken from the autotrader pages---> SC300s in Metro Area

In TN they might be cheaper but, around here they are still hot items. The only reason I say 98-2000 because they updated the body compared to the pre 97 models. I personally wanted a 98+ SC400 but ended up getting a Acura CLS.

Maybe low mileage is the key then. I figure if you're swapping the drivetrain that the mileage really isn't a consideration anyway. Most of the 80k miles in the link you provided are still below $20k.

Good point, I forgot about the swap. He could get a steal of a deal with a high mileage SC300 and do the swap, and still be under 20k. My vote changes now, go for a 98+ SC300 w/ high mileage and do the swap.

How about a 03 Cobra? I don't know what your opinion of domestics are but I think you cant go wrong with a cobra, unless you cant live with the interior? Just a suggestion.

Nothing but Japanese for me at this point. I think the body style on SC's changed 97. I'd just find a 92-96 with high mileage like you guys said, and that would be under 10K for sure. I'd get 97+ tails and possibly the bumpers, or else aftermarket kit. Just want good body, paint, and interior of course. So I could get the base vehicle for under 10K for sure. Still really want the G35c though...gonna go look at some this weekend.
