Where to start

This is not directly a maxima question, but i am wondering how to start workin/fixing up my own car. I used to have a maxima but the transmission broke so i got rid of it. Whats the best way to learn, is it to just get a car and start fixing it. Going to school is kindof out of the question because i just want to fix my own car as a hobby.

i learned how to do motor and tranny swaps by just working with buds who know a **** load about cars. when i was younger, i couldnt do anything! now, i do most everything on my own. trust me, it gets to be very fustrating sometimes, but the amount of $$ you save is priceless! plus, knowing that you did it on your own is a plus also!

It helps to get a Haynes manual for the car in question, acquire some decent tools, and focus on all the available information there is maintenance-wise for the car in question.

There is a plethora of information available on this website if you are interested in another Maxima. Read the FAQs and stickies, search, see motorvate.ca and maxmods.dydns.org

Ask well though out questions after you have exhausted other resources and many members of this site will be helpful. It also helps to have a buddy or two who are more mechanically inclined than you to lend a hand as you are learning.

Just fukc with your car every chance you get. Even if you don't need to do anything to it and have extra time, take something off and out it back on. Been doing that for 5 years now, and it takes time.. Get a haynes/chilton.
Now go learn on your own ...
