Am i getting ripped off ?

Left cv- right control arm ball joint and wheel bearing. My car makes a noise when turning so i brought it to tire kingdom and they gave me an estimate of 1200 to fix. Is that to much for the stuff needed ?

If thats including parts and labor + alignment I'd still say that a bit of the high side.

I had my brothers wheel bearing replaced and alignment for $240, you can buy a control arm for about $80, and driver side axle for about $100

I'd say about $500 would be a better price.

using all OEM parts, that's a fair estimate.

but you can replace the control arm bushings and ball joint for less than $100. about two hours labor.
wheel bearing is another $40 and 1 hour labor.
CV joint is 15 min labor after the wheel bearing, and $70 at autozone.

So you're looking at about 3.5 hours labor and $250 in parts.
OEM parts will cost you close to $700 for the same things.

even at $75/hour labor, that's still right at $500 total (using non OE parts)

so yeah, you're getting ripped off.

Price out different shops or go to the "Regional" section of the forums and ask local people for a good shop

I need ball joints on both sides and I got quoted $236 on the low end and $700 at the dealer. When you say "you can replace.." do you mean it's a DIY job or no? I'm wondering if ball joints on a 97 are easy to replace or not..

I can replace them, yes. a shop can, yes.
for the average joe.. it's an all day job and not a lot of fun.

you'll need air tools and a ball joint clamp tool which you can rent from the parts store if you don't have a hydraulic press.
