Ok so I decide to go through the car washes at the gas station (which is the 2nd time in my life i have done this), guess what i forget to do??? Turn off my radio & put my antenna down...yep you guess it, it's all bent up now....

How do I disconnect my antenna so it doesn't try to go up and down everytime I turn my car on & off??

Also if I disconnect it does my radio & CD (sony CD player) still work? I know that may sound like a dumb question, but i've never done this before?

Help me please!! I want to disconnect this thing before dark

Sarah, I did this in my Altima a while back. What I did was figured out what wire was what behind the radio went to the antenna and wired it with a switch. Then I could bring it up and down whenever I wanted to. If you want it off period, your best bet would to disconnect the wire on the actual antenna through the jack door. You'll have to fumble around in there until you get it off.

there is a black wire...kinda like an A/V jack wire that plugs into the back of your headunit...just unplug it...

it shouldn't affect whether or not your radio/CD player works but you won't get good reception...

If you need a new power antenna mast try getting a quote from Ultimate Z, the posted in the 'for sale' that they offer 25% off oem. Other places should have good prices too (Courtesy etc...)

Geez at least I dont feel so bad now :embarassed: I basically want a quick fix until I can go get it fixed somewhere in a couple weeks...The metal is just bent so it's not bent all the way down hitting my car but it will be in a couple of days...
Will it hurt anything that the motor wants to pull & push up the antenna but it doenst go anywhere? It wont burn the motor will it?
I funmbled around there and well needless to say I found the switch to my keyless remote I unplugged that then figured out what it was...i fumbled with some wires that i thought might connect the antenna however I saw one lead to the brake light section so i didn't that would be it.

anyone have any idea how much this is gonna cost me to get it fixed?

thanxs ants

You should be able to get the whole motor unit for something like 40 bucks or even cheaper from a junkyard. I'm not sure if you can replace just the antenna part since your motor is fine, but if you can take it apart from the motor, that would be like 10 bucks. Sucks though.

You should be able to pull back the entire side of the cheap trunk-liner material, so that you can get a better look at the antenna. If you disconnect it there, the motor won't have a chance to hurt itself.

Yeah i did pull away the trunk liner & look at all the wires...I only saw 2 - one i thought was the anteanna, but it was the hookup for the remote alarm and the other antenna went somewhere into the rear light assembly...

Yes you can damage the motor if you don't get it disconnected. The mast is a separate item that I see on Ebay all the time. Usually they go for around $45.

Ok well I'm not driving the car for the next week...seeing I'm going camping for the next week..so my mechanic is ordering a new mast for me. I dont want to drive it and have it break off and dangle and scratch the **** outta my car.

Ok, 1. it is fine to have the mast go up and down or have the motor try and move stuff as long as it isn't struggling, no cluncking or obscrue noises you haven't heard before. . . Mine was like this for almost 4 years, and the motor didn't need to be replaced or anything like that. The only time the motor needs to replaced other that burning out, as opposed to just the mast, is when the track comes loose and gets lodged into the motor. I know it cost me like $110 to get mine fixed when I bought it off my mom (parts and labor), but I am sure you can get a better price on it. . . I was new to Nissan's back then and didn't know not to take it to dealers.

Oh and we broke it off afterwards as there was no point to have it dangling. . . It came off real easily.
